You use vintage tubes in your amp?

Re: You use vintage tubes in your amp?

My Silverface Champ has stock Fender/RCA; I have RFT preamp tubes in all my other amps. Vast improvement on anything else I've tried; the RFT 12AX7s and RCA are really pretty similar in character; RCA preamp tube perhaps has a bit more chime. Power Amp tubes I have more experience with EH or JJ than vintage.

The RFT 12ax7 in my Vox VT40+ is branded RCA. :approve:

Just one tube used in this amp and it made a world of difference in tone. It came with a Sovtek 12ax7 which isn't too bad but in comparison the RFT mellowed the bass where the Sovtek made it harsh.

After I played with the settings and the presets I thought one thing, creamy brown gravy. That's with my Parker PDF30 and when I wrote to Parker asked what the pups were.

I don't like the Sovtek 12ax7s ; I'd rather use a new generic tube, even though they can be inconsistent (as in while some actually sound good, I've had others sound like trash.)

The RFT "fixed" my Vox AC4-C1 ; that amp was almost un-playable for its brightness and the EQ was useless... And I like bright guitars. (That said, RFTs still could not help my Orange AD5 , an amp that only sounds good on ten and sounds wiry/stringy any time otherwise.)

NOS will always sound way better than Soviet or Chinese tubes.

I robbed all those 12AX7's out of that Baldwin organ and most are actually pretty good.
