Your #1

Re: Your #1

WOW -
That sounded just like a pretty girl saying "yes". Your tone and phrasing are gorgeous. Can you elaborate a little more on your recording technique?
Thanks

Please understand that this particular tune was set-up to show how nice the Edana can sound clean.

If you want more driven clips, check out the dirty clip #3 and # 4.

Hope you all enjoy - I can not remember where I was, I meant what I was doing, I mean oh what the heck.

Re: Your #1

My #1 amp is my Fender Prosonic combo. I had a matching head and like an idiot traded it for a Marshall and hate the Marshall.
Had her for 2 years now and have sold all my other amps except for the TSL 60 Marshall tht may be up for sale soon if I can find another Prosonic head.
The reason I love um?? Pure GLORIOUS TONE!! NOTHING and I mean NOTHING sounds and responds like these amps do so keep your Marshalls, Soldanos, Boogners, Boogies ect just give me a Prosonic. More gain than a Ubersol but with more definition clarity and dynamics than the Ubersol. Bruce Zinky created a MONSTER in these amps and it's too bad Fender never marketed these amps as the Boogie and Marshall KILLERS they are. They look like a mild mannered Blackface reissue but are in reality ultra high gain FLAMETHROWERS. Unfortunately as a result of the poor marketing they did not sell and the the line died!! The prices are now going UP quickly and these things have a rabid following from those who are EXPERIANCED.
Here is a quick clip from an outdoor gig in Panama City Florida we did a couple of weeks ago no effects all amp except a little wah added at the end http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=439224&songID=5312459

Here is a photo of the combo and head I had. These are the Clark Kents of the amp world and turn into super amps when you fire um up and step on the switch for the crunch chanells.

My Vox Valvetronix VT 120 Head,73 Marshall 50 watt 1987 Head all handwired PTP by me last year or so,Marshall AV V30 4x12 cab,and my wonderful Fender 66 BF Pro Reverb amp loaded with Weber speakers...

Not shown and at my Drummer's house....

My Marshall head is just a great sounding amp! Does almost a Fender BF/Tweed type clean tone with lots of overtones, but grinds like a great ole Marshall at higher volume settings....Lots of stuff done to it on the inside thanks to my friend Trace Allen for his verbal help and e mails!

97 Fender Blonde Pro Juinor
Vox AD 2x12 w/V30s(Matches the VT120 Head)...

Re: Your #1

Do you have blocks between the Marshall and Vox heads because the Marshall has top-side vents?

- Keith

That and the head sits better on blocks over the Marshall....Actually the 50 watter doesn't have the top vents, but the 100 watter does....The Marshall handle keeps the Vox head rocking w/o the 2x4s...

Sits better on the blocks!

Re: Your #1

This seems like a good solution for me, since my AC-30 has top-side vents, and I'd like to have the option of putting something on top of it.

Re: Your #1

My #1 has been my Bogner EL-34 Shiva w/ Reverb. I've had it for the past 2 years and it still makes me happy. Why? It just works. The cleans are full and sparkly and the overdrive is fat with a unique crunch. It takes pedals well also, so I add a pedal or two for taste (really happy with my Lovekraft Mojo Drive for lead work right now).

NICE! I've been drooling over the Shiva for several years now and I WILL aquire one (or two). It's just a matter of making it a priority. For years I used to go into my buddy's music store and try out all of the tube amps. I tried DR. Z, Top Hat, Soldano, Mesa, Matchless, Laney, Marshall, VHT, Rivera, etc. And only three amps every really grabbed me. They were the Bogner Shiva, Bogner Exctasy, and Hughes & Kettner Triamp MkI. I bought the H&K because I've never heard a clean tone that I like better than that one. It shimmers, sparkles, and spanks. And since I've played lots of country (in addition to classic rock and metal) for a living, I had to go with that. My buddy ended up taking the Shiva and Exctasy home. I've since sold the Triamp (because I got tired of lugging it around). I miss it, but was more enamored with the Shiva from the get-go. It was SO sweet and toneful. I've never forgotten that amp and will have one.

My #1 right now is either my Traynor Custom Blue 50 1X12 combo with 1X12 extension cab, or my Traynor YCS-100 head. I love them both. The head will do the hi-gain thing better thant the combo, and has so many features. I've never had an amp with more features that work well for the working musician. LOVE the adjustable Solo Boost feature, as well as the individual reverb, EQ, and gain control for all three channels. Very nice. But for a warm, clubby clean/overdriven combo that Custom Blue 50 excels. Neither amp is "boutique", but I do love them both and haven't seen any other amps that compare for the low price.

Re: Your #1

It's got to be my Marshall 2555SL Slash Jubilee. I bought it new in 97 from a small town music store in Iowa while visiting my girlfriend's family. I noticed they were going out of business on our way into town, strolled down there, and found the complete half stack setting there amongst a bunch of Crates and Boss pedals. When the owner said he'd take 900 for the halfstack, I bought it on the spot. I was a college junior at the time and had probably 900.01 to my name but I had to buy it!!!

I've had it so long, that, it's just become "my tone" and that makes it my #1

Here it is with my Marshall DSL50

Re: Your #1

Mesa F-50, got it summer of '05, and its a WHOLE lot better than my old 15w SS peavey. I have been wanting to get rid of the f-50 and get a single recto lately...but I doubt the parents will let that happen.

Mesa Roadking Combo

I got a ridiculous deal on it back on the 4th of July 2005 clearance at GC. I absolutely love it, it's like the versatility of modeling amp but with real tone! I'm still finding new tones but now I have it set up:
1. Pushed tweed type tone
2. "Classic" Marshall type gain w/ EL34's
3. "Modern" Marshall crunch (EL34) with some of the Mesa smoothness
4. Recto grind

The only thing I don't like about it is the distortion channels don't take fuzz pedals well at all, but the clean channel does it great.

Re: Your #1

Here's my #1...this is one of six amps, I built w/ a friend...pretty simple...all-tube bliss....I've had it for about a year now.

Re: Your #1

A 1978 Hiwatt DR 504. I've owned it since about 1995. My bro in law had it for about 10 yrs prior to that. While I may prefer a particular amp of a different make for a certain sound, this amp covers all the bases, and does it well. It has been my amp for 99% of the gigs I've played as a guitarist since I owned it. I've used various 1x12, 2x12, and 4x12 cabs w/it. Usually 4x12s.

Prior to that, my #1 was a Marshall JCM 800, But, like a dumbass, I sold it. That amp is not as versatile as the Hiwatt, but what it does, it was killer at!

Some really great amps on this thread!

Re: Your #1

My early-model Splawn Pro Mod and matching 4x12.

It's the original design with two inputs, no "gear" switching, a shared EQ, and the Mercury Magnetics trannies... I've had it for several years now and it's never failed me. I've not once thought of selling it, and I went through almost a half-dozen different tube amps before settling on it a few years ago. It's about due for a re-tube and bias these days, though.

That's a really great amp. I have one too, but it has been converted to EL34s. I believe I'd call it my #1 amp as well. I vasilate between the Splawn and a 2204 with 6550s. Running both of those amps simultaneously covers a ton of ground!

I honestly don't have a fave, anyone of these ugly heads provides me with great inspiration. I rotate for every gig and for every song I record. Still have not made it through em all.... Super fun stuff....

Re: Your #1
