Your amp wish list?

Re: Your amp wish list?

It’s likely going to be a while until my next amp purchase, since I recently picked up my Hot Rod 25.

But my wish list includes:
SLO 100
Decatone
Lucky 13
Louis Electric Bluesbreaker
Louis Electric Columbia reverb
Louis Electric Deltone reverb
Louis Electric Gattone

I love my two Soldanos, but I have the two babies of the family (which are slouches on volume), but now have a taste for the higher output models.

Which Soldanos do you have? I haven't played a HR 25, but I've played just about everything else they make. The SLO has a unique sound that none of the other amps will do, but the lead channels in the Decatone, Hot Rods, & Lucky 13 are all but identical. The Decatone has the three channels that balance amazingly well considered shared EQ, while the Lucky 13 has reverb and that more Fender-y non-master clean channel. It just seems like you have quite a bit of duplication on your list...

If I were in the market for another 100W head, I'd buy a Decatone as having all 3 channels is really nice and the lead channel is close enough to an SLO. About the only thing I don't like about that amp is the parallel effects loop.

Your amp wish list?

I have the Astroverb and the HR 25, which I meant to say that are not slouches on volume.

Yeah, there is a little overlap in the overdrive channels, but, to me, there is enough difference in the clean channels to live with that for the times I want them, and still have my overdrive tone.

After playing the HR 25, HR 50, Decatone and SLO back to back at my dealer, the big difference is the clean / normal channel on each. The HR 25 was VERY much like the SLO on the overdrive channel, but breaks up quicker on the normal channel, but not extremely so. I was split between the HR 25 and HR 50 for essentially the same price. I chose the 25 because it is a slight bit more portable in size and I have the option of running direct through a Two Notes Torpedo Live, if I need extra reinforcement.

I’ve actually been bugging my dealer to work with Mike to try mating the decatone preamp with the HR 25 power amp design to have the three channels with the lower output, in my opinion it’s that nice.

A Decatone 25 would give me unfathomable GAS. I kind of hope they don't make one because I need another amp like I need a hole in the head, and I just can't justify the $3K it would probably cost.

Re: Your amp wish list?

Same here. My buddy Lynne Burke at Blues City Music just spent a few days @ Mike’s shop in Seattle and captured pics of a new amp Mike is doing called the Little Luck. It’s a 50 watt Lucky 13, but only the clean channel. Looks pretty impressive. The pics are the BCM Facebook page back around July, 30, along with some others of Mike’s “museum” pieces.

Re: Your amp wish list?

Well, I'd like a Dirty Shirley, but don't want to carry it around. I'd also dig a Carol-Ann OD2, and maybe a Carr Roamer.

Re: Your amp wish list?

Now there is only one amp on my wish list. If only I could remember what it was. If only there were some way to jog my memory and rectify this situation.

Re: Your amp wish list?

I'm toying with the idea of a JVM 410C, swapping out the speakers for my super lightweight Lil Texas. £600 secondhand on eBay at the mo.

Do it, man. Spare no expense.

I got a really good deal on an old 410 head, and I love it.

You may already know this, but the earliest ones had control pots where the shafts kind of float in the faceplate without being secured by the usual nut and washer. If that bugs you, see if you can find out from the seller. Mine is a 2007 that has the floating shafts. I doesn’t really bother me, but I can see how it might.

It's a bit too much of a stretch at the moment, otherwise I would. I'd like something I could just throw on some folding wheels, and cart around town on buses/tubes if need be, but without having to add a load of extras to keep in line with my rack gear.

Only complaint I've come across of late, was that some of them developing a constant low motorboating(?) sound, or such :-S

Re: Your amp wish list?

Orange Crush 35RT
Vox Rhythm 5 WHOOPS I read the title wrong this is not my wish list. My wishes have come true on these amps.:D
Blackstar Fly 3

Re: Your amp wish list?

Id love to have a Friedman BE, a 5150, a 5153 50w, and a Jose modded JCM800 or a Ceriatone Chupacabra

Re: Your amp wish list?

I acquired a Line 6 Spidervalve II 100 watt head a while back. If there is an amp I want to play, I can dial it up. Running it through a 4x12 with 12M-70's. Yowzah!

Friedman makes a rack module preamp version for Synergy, have you looked into that?

Re: Your amp wish list?

My wish list:

  • One of everything Dave Friedman makes, plus the Naked head which is no longer in production.
  • I'd love to have the blue channel of an Ecstasy 101B as it's own amp.
  • Fender Blues Deluxe reissue
  • Bassman 4x10 reissue
  • Vibroverb reissue
  • Vox AC30 head
  • Axe-FX for studio work

It probably wouldn't be terribly difficult or expensive to mod a JMP/JCM 2203 or 2204 to sound like that. I've always thought that the Ecstasy blue channel was essentially an idealized JCM800.

Re: Your amp wish list?

I'm doing ok in clone land as far as my amps go. Marshall or Fender tweed clones. Covers what I play beautifully.

However, I have always wanted a Mesa. One of their more classic rock/blues combos would be a lot of fun, I'm thinking.
