Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I have no beefs with floating bridges whatsoever, I´m a proud "whammy Wanker".

I may not use the Whammy as much as I used to, but when I do a Floating Floyd or Kahler is essential. And properly set up and maintained, they WILL stay in Tune as well as or better than any hardtail or non floating Bridge ;)

Probably NOT the post you were expecting, ´eh ;) :D:D:D

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

i aint got a beef with em dawg!!!!!

i ****ing love them, make weird noises!!
and if they're perfectly saet up then just go and forget going out of tune, it aint happeneing :D

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I very rarely break strings so my only gripe is the way that five strings go flat when I do bends, especially with double stops. I'm looking forward to the Tremol-No getting released soon so I can lock the bridge when I'm not using it.

That said, I mainly use the bar for vibrato effects and they sound more natural to me with a floating trem where I can go above and below the note's pitch.

But the post I like to hear! I don't know why some people don't like 'em. Probably the most reasonable suspicion, like you noted, is keeping the beast in tune.

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I love my floating Floyds! Only small problem is maybe not as much sustain as a string through the body. Thats about it.

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I love all 5 of my G&L's, with the full floating Dual Fulcrum tremelo. They're easy to work, and do a great job of staying in tune, without a locking nut.

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

the tuning and double stop issues keep me away from floyds. I'd only play a 5 spring floater for the stability.

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I like to change from E to Drop D anywhere from 2-10 times a day! haha...

I wouldn't use a floating trem enough to justify owning one, a 2 point would work fine for what I'd do, if I ever did it.

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I was at sam Ash a few years ago playing a beautful Strat w/t a 2 point
bridge on it. The guitar played sweet ,it was on sale and i was ready to pull
the trigger on it. But for some reason I have a bad habit/or just the way
I play? of resting my palm on the bridge. I noticed every time I was playing
a lead and started digging in it was goin' sharp on me ! :smack: So that
was the end of that. Another time the other guitarist in my band showed
up at a gig w/t a ibanez w/t a Floyd that he borrewed from a friend.
(his guitar was being worked on) well two strings where out, the fine
tuner was maxed out, And nobody had a Allen key. :smack: other than
that I have no beef with Floating Bridges. :D

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I'm with Zerb. I love my floaty-Floyd. How can you set the world afire without a little dive-bombing?

But, the longer I play, the less I "need" to use it.

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I hate trems! I'd rather spend my time playing than tuning. Give me a hard tail any day of the week. :smoker:

+1 :D

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I'd like to own a floyd guitar, but I change tunings and like to use different guitars in different tunings. I can't stand the amount of hassle of tuning them, even though I love how you can go absolutely nuts on the whammy bar with them.

Re: Your Beef With Floating Bridges?

I keep my Strat with a Kahler in full float. Lets me do that 80's trem wanking thing, but more importantly (for me), it lets me do nifty feedback tricks.

I blocked the trem on another Strat for the alternate tuning thing.
