help needed guys,

i am at the final stage of building my mahogany tele and i can't make up my mind on the finish.

heritage cherry

natural

please choose your preference. if you have other ideas, do feel free to share them.

To me the heritage cherry one looks like a Tele infected with SG-itis, lol. I think the natural one's much nicer.

i will be doing the finish myself. no spray equipment and no access to nitro spray cans. i just have to stick to stains and wipe-on finishes.

If your body is mahogany, wouldn't the "natural" be considerably darker than that?

perhaps you could do a light blonde stain on the wood, then coat it with a a light mix of oil and shellac. So you can get a pretty durable finish that you can rub on.

A little off topic I know but, it seems everyone is using the kind of template for guitar make over display. Did you find tehm on the web, or is it something that goes around the forum?

By the way, I voted natural. Personally I would go with the traditional pickguard shape. But that only my opinion...

nah, dd brought up a good point, the natural would be a little darker, and i think that'd be more aesthetically pleasing to my eye.

dani, I will have to scan a pic and post it for you...it is from a 1963 Fender catalog and there is a mahogany telecaster...plain as day...it looks cool!!!

I personally love 3 tone burst and the finish Springsteen has on his tele, though I doubt they are possible on a mahogany tele. I've always wondered how a mahogany strat would sound. Anyone tried one?
