Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Nevermore's This Godless Endeavour and Dead Heart In A Dead World
Killswitch Engage's End of Heartache
Arch Enemy's Anthems of Rebellion and Wages of Sin
God Forbid - Constitution of Treason
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor
The Haunted - Discography

Strange... all of those were recorded with EMG's and overdrive pedals, and everything but the Nevermore albums were recorded with 5150's....

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Are you certain on Arch Enemy using EMG's Jeff, to me it sounded like Chris never used them and Micheal stopped using them after burning bridges.

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Forgot - some of Dan Huff's on the instrumental track 'To be forgotten'

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

One of my favorite tones is Carlos Santana's solo tone on Supernatural. That totally smooth, creamy, sustaining tone. No matter what I do with my rig I cannot even get close to it. Also I love SRV's guitar tone on most of his songs, its just so big and present in an indescribable way, its just HUGE. Irritating that my favorite tones are the ones that I cannot seem to get with any setup in my price range. Also all Hendrix stuff and most Pink Floyd songs, I was listening to Wish You Were Here for the first time in a while and the tone of Shine On You Crazy Diamond just grabbed me, it was so great.

Ah this is true, that's the one I overlooked. Chris and Mike have never used EMG's, but the recorded tones have always been tubescreamers into 5150's, besides on Doomsday Machine, which was 50% Dual Racktifier (yes, rack), and 50% Krank Revolution1. Same exact setup as on the Nevermore album, actually.

Are you by any chance an Yngwie Malmsteen fan?

I used to think of him as a great player, which he probably is, but after the 1000th song with the same fast solos and sweeps, over the same scales, over and over again, I lost interest. The only album I think has great 'songs' is Facing the Animal. His best, I think.

Still, tone-wise he's very distinctive.

Howdy,

Keef on the "Get yer Ya-Ya's Out" album. His completely NASTY riff on "Sympathy for the Devil" is too much! Light overdrive, really.

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Someone else I relistened to recently, don't laugh, but East Bay Ray from Dead Kennedy's had a totally kick-ass tone, he LOVES surf and rockabilly and mixes it with hard rock crunch. He plays some KILLER guitar on the first Dead Kennedys album "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables", check out songs like "Police Truck", "Let's Lynch The Landlord", "Viva Las Vegas" and "Holiday In Cambodia"

I'm not even really into punk at all but that album is something else, side-splitting HILARIOUS to boot ("Stealing People's Mail" or "Your Emotions" for example) :laugh2: :lmao:

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Duane Allman on "Fillmore East" Jeff Beck on "Truth" and Japanese guitarist Hotei on "Merry Axemas" doing his instrumental version of "Merry Xmas(War is Over)."

Sincerely,
