Your favorite modded pickup?

Given that there are so many people here modding their guitar pickups with magnet swaps ect I wanted to ask what is your favorite modded pickup and why?

Personally I really do like Full Shred with stock A5 magnet and two rows of phillister pole screws. It's effectively Custom 5 plus with more high midrange snarl and less bass/low mid boom than custom 5 has. I've installed it in my ibby RG752FX.

I really like the JB+/Distortion Lite. JB with Ceramic magnet.

That being said, I think I like the stock JB better, honestly. But it's still a really cool JB variation to try/have.

I don't really think I dislike the ceramic '59N matched with hotter ceramic pickups.

I would REALLY like to know what an A5 Black Winter sounds like, though.

Custom 3 (A3 magnet) in bridge and JB3 in neck. I remove the tone pot when I put the JB3 in the neck spot for getting enough highs.
I also like the Half-Tone Zone with a polished A3 magnet

I much prefer the JB with an A4, and the 59 with an A3 to the stock set.

I'm not a big fan of the 59 from my experience with it though so while it's a big improvement it's not my ideal neck pickup.

Other than that, I don't think I've had good luck with modding pickups. I almost always end up going back to stock. A4 Jazz, A5 Distortion Neck, Custom 5 and Custom +... I almost always like stock pickups. I suppose I'm boring like that.

Stock JB works very well in some guitars but I always end up taking them out. I've had two different JBJ pickups and latter one was definitely more of my style but I wasn't able to tame it whatever I did to it. That being said, I really do like Distortion Neck in the bridge position of my ibby RGD2127FX. I even might try it out with a double thickness A5 or stock A5 one day.

Personally I've found that 59 bridge works in the neck position better at least in my guitars but that might be caused by 24 frets. I always prefer A2P humbucker over 59 and A2P bridge in neck is just great in 24 fretted guitars.

I have a Custom Shop Seth Lover set that has 4 conductors, black powder-coated covers, and a rw/rp neck pickup. They sound fantastic.

Pearly Gates bridge with an A6
I had pearly gates set in my 90's Tokai LS-55 and they sounded great with polished A5 mags. A8 was too over the top for that guitar.

Peter Green tones when having both on at the same time? Where you have installed them?

A3 Custom Custom in neck position is fire in a 24 fret instrument.
Glad that it works for you. I can see it being a flamethrower.

I have a JB/Superdistortion in a guitar . . . and while it's not the best pickup for everything, it's pretty damned good for 80's style metal stuff.

I modded a Full shred with 1 row of screws and an A8 mag. Tight, punchy, articulate and nice output. I also liked a Screamin' Demon with an A8. It added some mids and more output.
