What y'all think? Pick the brand you think makes the best (overall) blues amps, which model and why? I know its fairly generic, but was interested in what people thought was a "blues" amp :)

Hard for me to vote...

I think Overall no doubt Fender wins...however my fave blues amp is a JTM45...yeah it's basically a bassman circuit..but it's got a little bit more bite and marshall mids... just a notch above a bassman...which can be sweet or kinda mean...a JTM45 can do that and also be downright RUDE & NASTY if ya like that kind of thing (I do) :D

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

Best blues amps I've ever played through:

Fender Blondeface piggyback Tremolux
Fender Blackface Super Reverb
Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb
Fender Customshop bassbreaker
Matchless DC30
Marshall Bluesbreaker combo
Mesa Blue Angel

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

Them ugly old 60s Valcos made in Chicago. Them ain't money amps, they is giggin amps.

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

Fender Vibrolux Reverb, smooth and balanced to deliver blues goods. At higher volumes or used with a tubescreamer to push the frontend, the amp can really break up and sing. Fender overdrive is much different than other circuits and it KILLS for blues.

For more aggressive blues, I have to backup the statement about the JTM-45. Even though it was used with a lot of classic rock, that amp has the right bite to do some rough blues (and guys like Clapton would back that up too ;) ).

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

I am a big fan of Robben Ford's blues tone so I'd say Dumble or a Fuchs

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

I have to vote Fender. Their Blues DeVille and Blues Deluxe are just great blues amps. Marshall to me is more a rock-n-roll amp but the JTM45 is really sweet, like Jeff mentioned, as well as the Bluesbreaker and even the 18 Watt. But for all out blues, Fender wins.

I am all about department store brands!! Now if I could just find one of the JC Penny's brand amps. Never see them.

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

Just depends what'cha like. For more traditional Chicago style tones (BB King, Buddy Guy, etc.) Fender. For Live at the Regal era BB, either a Fender Twin Reverb or a Super Reverb.... or tweed Bassman for those glassy sounding early Buddy Guy type tones.

If you're a British Blues guy and an admirer or Eric Clapton's tones with Cream or John Mayall than go for a Marshall. Personally, I like his tone with Cream better than his tone with John Mayall...but I love both!

Somebody who hopefully owns a Vintage Club or one of the new V-Series.

They may be better than certain Fender models but there's no way Crate beats out Fender overall for blues tone. (My most humble opinion.)

I agree.

BTW, it wasn't me.

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

I like the Marshall JTM45 or Bluesbreaker alot for those 60s British Blues tones (Clapton...even Hendrix, etc.) .

Maybe thats why im getting a JTM45 made! :naughty:

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

I picked Fender, even though (much like JeffB) my favorite blues amp I've ever played was a Bluesbreaker. Fender wins though. Period.

Re: Your favourite blues amp?

You can't beat a tweed Bassman for blues IMO. I also agree with the JTM-45, but isn't that pretty much a Bassman with different tubes?
