Your favourite “burst”?

For me it’s a good up between Cherry Sunburst and Silverburst...

On a Les Paul:
Lemonburst
then Honeyburst
then washed/faded Cherry Sunburst

I used to dislike Strats with sunbursts, but now I really like both 2-tone and 3-tone. 3-tone especially with tort guard.

I like unusual ones. I am kinda sick of cherry, heritage, and vintage sunbursts. I think it is all those iconic pics of Clapton, Page, etc...I figured, why have them if they already do?

HATE Silverbursts. They look cheap.
I don't mind a good Les Paul Custom in silverburst finish.

But many of the import guitars in that finish do look terrible.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of silverburst guitars because I kinda associate them with the whole hipster sludgy metal plaid shirt skinny pants look, personally.

Did Adam Jones singlehandedly kick off the Silverburst popularity?

I like a really subtle Lemon burst. I can't stand the HCSB where it looks like a red guitar with a yellow teardrop in the middle, and almost no fade to separate the two

AKA, a clown burst...or a Ronald McDonald. A dyed and faded version of a cherry burst isn't too bad looking. They need to be widely blended or they get pretty silly looking.

I like black over charcoal myself. I built an ES-335 with this over a AAA quilted top and it was magnificent. Combined it with black Alumitones and it had a "business formal" type look. I'll try to find a picture of it if I took any.

Edit: I couldn't find any actual photos, but I did manage to find a digital mockup I made that gave me the idea:

I did end up with some key differences on the actual guitar. Namely I ditched the middle pickup, painted the inside black (look in the f-holes), and used trapezoid inlays. It didn't have nearly the amount of gloss the digital version does.

Never been a big fan of any 'burst. I like solids; especially metallic and especially especially metalflake

A subtle burst is best imo. I don’t like the cherry burst typically. They are usually just too in your face.

The subtly of the fade matters more to me than the color. I don’t care for harsh defining lines.

Schecter Dragon burst...

Jackson Alien burst...

I agree on the harshness of the cherry burst. Do you like this?
