and what age you were when you got them?

Harmony Electric - looked like a $50 strat 11yrs old

Kaye acoustic 10yrs old - eventually warped, so I smashed it when I was 14.
At least I learned all the basic chords on it before the top delaminated from the body.

Peavey Studio Pro 40 SS practice amp. I learned 'Saturation' meant sh!tty distortion. The MXR Distortion + didn't help smooth it out much either.

These were the humble beginnings of a lifelong gear addiction.

Re: Your First Guitar?

3/4 size acoustic, age 8.

Discontinued DOD practice amp, really nice actually. Same time as my tele.

Electric-KAPA Continental
Acoustic-Some awful Kaye that broke a week after Christmas
Amp-A Heathkit that my father built through speakers I took out of an old Magnavox record player/console
Age-12

Re: Your First Guitar?

Electric = B.C. Rich Mockingbird Bronze Series
Acoustic = Dean of some sort - like the others, cheap!
Amplifier = Crate GX15 (8 inch Crate made speaker and low reliability included!)

The electric and the amp came when I was 12 going onto 13, the acoustic was my brother's and that came a little bit before. Probably the summer of my twelfth year of my life!

My first guitar I got at 13 was a Classical one, my first electric was an Ibanez Roadstar strat, awfull piece of crap, got that one when I was 18, had borrowed my friends guitar until that point, he took on playing bass instead!
My first amp was an old Dynacord 50 watts top, with two old 10" celestion speakers, also got that when I was 18.

Re: Your First Guitar?

A cheap applause strat copy, black w/maple fretboard, & a washburn 12 or 15 watt amp. They were both crap, but you dont really need something great to start with.
I was 14 when I got them, my uncle gave them to me to start with.

Amp: Fender Sidekick 10. Still have it too. Also, in excellent condition. (Bought in early '80's.)

1st electric:
Montgomery Wards Airline solid body single pickup. I think I was 11 or 12 then....wish I still had it....got this pic once off of ebay

airline1a.jpg

1st acoustic: At 10 or 11 yrs. old, a ukelele my mom bought with S&H Greenstamps (you older folks will know what I'm talking about), which was succeeded soon after with a Montgomery Ward Airline acoustic that I tore my fingers up with....heh-heh.

1st Amp: a 10w Vox solid state amp, which I got with my 1st elec. axe.

That was a sweet Christmas, as I recall.

Re: Your First Guitar?

Squier Bullet Special, smashed it a while ago - 11 yrs old

Some cheap acoustic, mom sold it at a garage sale - 11yrs old

Squier 15 watt, blew itself when I tried to run it through stereo speakers - 11yrs old

Re: Your First Guitar?

1st guitar -> donated Kay acoustic, unplayable

1st acoustic guitar -> Conn Classical, best one of the bunch that I've ever seen. Still have that one.
1st electric -> Ventura SG Copy. Wish I still had it. It had a much ruder tone than any SG that I own today.
1st amp -> Gibson Lark, Univox GA50. Univox later became Stage, for those oldsters out there that remember those amps. Crappy sounding, but LOUD!

Re: Your First Guitar?

Mark I. Memphis Les Paul Copy and Sears Silvertone Twin-Twelve (which blew up all the time). (1982-1984)
Mark II. Hondo "Flying Star" through Carvin 60-watt combo. (1984-1985)
Mark III. Ibanez Roadstar through Carvin. (1985 - 1987)
Mark IV. MIJ Jackson through Crate 15-watt combo. (1997-1999)
Mark V. Today (Below) (1999-today)

Re: Your First Guitar?

electric: gremlin strat thing. Got it when I was like 12. I didnt get into guitar until a couple years later. It plays like crap, but is perfect for slide. I sold it to the bitchy spoiled 9yr old neighbor last summer because she wouldnt shut up about it. I started to miss it. Then she screwed it up and I told her I would fix it. So I got it back now and have no plans of returning it. I hate that girl more than i hate stupid ebayers.

acoustic: i played my moms vintage fender acoustic before any other guitar, but my first was a samick I got last summer (15yrs old).

amp: a thing I dont even remember that came with the Gremlin. it didnt work. My first workin amp came with the Squier when I was 14.
