Now I know there are so many passives compared to actives, and that the tonal range is really quite large to make a very specific decision.

But if I asked you, on an average day - choose a guitar loaded with x type of pickup, what would you choose?

I'm not asking you which one is BEST, I'm asking which one you would generally DRIFT TOWARDS.

Yes, a poll like this has been done in the past, but I would like to see how the SD forum has changed in general preference since it has been quite a while since a similar thread popped up.

No arguing, or flaming the nature of this thread please, just voting ;)

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

passives all the way

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

I like both, I haven't had much experence with passives, but I'm hoping by my next guitar to have a full passive setup.

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

Passive, definitely. It's enough that I have to buy batteries for my pedal, nevermind for my pickups!

Plus, better tone, IMO.

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

I would like to experience passives a little more, as I've heard they have a lot more to offer than actives. So I voted passive.

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

damn no one like active yeassh

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

Passives... I do not like the idea of having a 9v battery in my axes

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

I can't really say i prefer one over the other. I juust use them differently and so theres no clear winner for me.

+1.. both have their uses and tones, I use EMGs, Duncans and Jackson Pickup/preamp systems almost exclusively ;)

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

Passive for guitar, active for bass, and I'd still like to get an active loaded guitar.

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

I voted passive, but perhaps thats a bit silly since I've never tried an active. I do have it, though, somewhere down on my wish list to try a set of LiveWire Classics in my Predator.

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

I have no need for actives, i am confident the passives can fullfill every need i currently have, without the extra hassle of batteries.

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

you guys know me, for my playing style if it doesn't sound vintage then it isn't for me. I played a few actives but i have never owned a guitar that has them. None of them ever sounded right to me

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

Half my guitars are active, the other half passive....but I voted active because that's what my main axes have.

Re: Your GENERAL preference poll: PASSIVE or ACTIVE

Active, as one of my two main players will be EMG loaded, and the other has passive pickups with an active mid-boost.
