Your Greatest Gear Deal?

What have you stumbled upon for cheap (garage sales, eBay, etc. ?)

Aside from a couple great deals on pedals in the last while, I was most happy to grab this Champ for ~$230 last year :) Original tubes/plug etc....

EDIT: Wait, I posted this in the guitar room! So...

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

A few that I can think of...

In the Summer of 2001, I bought a 1988 Marshall Jubilee 2555 for $550.

In late 2004, I bought #49 of the first Charvel 25th Anniversary run for $750; wish I still had it sometimes.

In the Summer of 2013 I bought a 1987 Charvel Model 1A minus the electronics for $150.

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

Picked up a 2011 '65 Reissue Twin Reverb for $750 off craigslist. Very clean, great condition.

Just ordered a new guitar Thursday. LTD AX-350, missing pickups, good condition. $175, $215 with shipping. Should be here by Monday, I'll post when it arrives.

Squier Hello Kitty Strat, at local pawn shop for $89. Bought it, decided to keep it and throw a dimebucker in it. Solid guitar, especially for the price.

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

Carvin V212 for $237. It's an X amp combo. Shecter Blackjack for $180. Duncan TT Mayhem pedal for $70.

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

Oh, and matching Carvin 4X12 cab for the V212 for $200. I couldn't buy four Celestions for that price.

I like the 12M-70's. Plenty down below. Mid spike that some call icepick, I call cutting. Plenty of character up top too.

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

A Bogner XTC for less than $2300 can be the rock/metal score of a lifetime. I got the 32nd Ecstasy for $2175. It's been my main amp since 2001.

If I listed all my gear scores, the list would be huge, because I've been an LA Craigslist and Recycler picker since I was 15.

My best scores were a 35th Ann. Gibson black beauty for $1100. Also, an amazing LP goldtop for $700 plus a cheap strat. Martin D28 for $1000.

Ahh. Marshalls....Mint 87 2550 Silver Jubilee fullstack for $1400. Mint 86 2204 for $850.
Mint 84 4103 212 combo for $850. 412AHW empty for $260, and I'm thinking of grabbing the straight BHW for $600 this week.....loaded with the expensive 55Hz Greenbacks. (still contemplating that one)

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

This was $72 after shipping from GC.

It's made such a difference by making everything jump-out sooooooomuch more easily. (with a softer touch).
I have a standard K on top still. With the full K set I had to play harder and it was tougher to nail the perfect half-loose swashy tone.
The sound itself is now more glistening in the presence (and much louder) while still retaining some of the darker and richer K-tone.

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

Got the neck for my latest (and only so far) build from GuitarFetish's Factory Blowout Clearance sale for $15.00 plus shipping. Had to finish it myself, and I really wasn't sure what I was getting, but at that price I figured the worst thing that would happen would be that I'd spend $15.00 for finishing practice.

Fortunately it feels and plays great... and even had some cool inlays!

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

Some of you guys make meally jealous as usual. I'm glad for Joe not listing his 'cause ever since I joined the forum in2002 his score threads have made me green with envy.

My best deals were those:
-Mesa vtwin pedal for 125$
-pair of Seth humbuckers on ebay for 60$
-Orange Thunderverb 50 for 900$

Nothing as insane as you guys but I've lived in Quebec city for 10 years where the used market was bad and the last 8 years I've lived in a small region where it only consists of squiers guitars and solid state amps so if you want good quality gear you get it elsewhere, never any deals...

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

Just thought of another...

In 2012 I bought an Ibanez SR400 from Guitar Center used for $160 shipped. Turns out it had an EMG P/J set installed that GC didn't bother mentioning; I basically bought the set of pickups and got a free bass. Ended up gifting it to longcat.

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

I have found many great deals:

'56 strat - $275 (no case)
'69 strat - $275 (all original w/original case)
'55 Gibson ES-130 - $149 (all original with a Gibson custom shop acoustic case)
'78 Guild B-301 - $99 (all original, no case)
Tiny Terror - $180

There's more, but I figure this is enough to encourage you to regularly visit pawn shops in your area.

Re: Your Greatest Gear Deal?

A Peavey 6505+ for almost 50% of RRP price in UK GBP. Second hand but never gigged, used twice and pretty much in brand new condition!
