Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Its a very tough call between these two. Ironically, they are probably my two least expensive guitars.

The ol' Brown Bess, my '74 SG.
Got it in '98, it's pretty much stock except for a few new screws here and there.

This is a guitar I started building back in '95, and finished up maybe 10 years later. It's a twin to the first one I built that got broken. 1pc korina body & neck, rosewood board. Set neck, Gibson scale.

Over about 25 years of playing guitar, I can count on one hand how many "main" guitars I've had. I've rarely owned more that 2 electrics at any given time. Right now I own several...but not really for playing purposes.

'12 Gibson CS VOS '60 Les Paul Special

Been playing guitar for 35 years now and have never had a guitar that is as 'me' as this one. Neck feels like it was made for me, P-90s are well - there's nothing better IMO, and the wraptail bridge adds just enough zing that I can cop faux-Tele sounds. I never fully appreciated just how important a bridge is to how a guitar sounds until I got this thing. It's light and resonant, warm and clear - rings so loud unlpugged that I play it as much acoustically as I do into an amp. Just a perfect guitar for what I do.

That sounds like an amazing instrument, glad you found that guitar that is you.....

Tattooed Carrot that tele looks awesome! I'm kinda getting away from buckers now but I feel like in a tele they are a bit brighter and twangier then in say a les paul or ES-335 style guitar

This has been my main player since I finished building it late last year.

MIM alder strat body, Warmoth standard thin contour, 10-16" compound radius, stainless steel frets. Custom titanium and brass bridge from Hantug Guitars, Gotoh locking staggered tuners. It's currently got an EVH Frankenstein. Sounds and plays amazing.

You are correct, its as if a Tele and a Les Paul mated and that is the offspring. Also, I have both pickups splittable with a push/pull - best of both worlds.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Meet "Bones", he's the daddy in my house. Not the best player although not shabby but it sounds bloody awesome with a Brobucker/ A2Pn combo. He's called "Bones" because he is after all just a bare bones basic as you like plank of wood, but he has something going on. My other guitars get used and not pampered, they all have dings but this one kicks all of their ass's.... ha ha

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

This is Sapphire, my main axe. My Gibson Trad Pro Explorer is a VERY close second. This was custom made by a local luthier. Alder body w/figured maple top, c-shaped flame maple neck (tough to see in these pics though) and rosewood board w/Jem-style inlay. Sports a 12"-14" compound radius w/6105 frets, graphite nut, reverse headstock w/sperzels. The bridge is a Fender American Deluxe Trem. The pickups are a Custom 5 and an SD Custom Shop Hot '59. The tones are push/pulls to individually coil tap. Sounds great, plays incredibly amazing!

I just finished playing for a production of RENT using that guitar. I replaced all the electronics with better, non Squier crap electronics, while I was at it I replaced the tone pot with a push pull and the Hot Rail cleans up so good.

My Epi SG.
'59s, sprague orange drop caps and alpha pots, graphtech nut and kluson style tuners.
Also right now it's got a nice gash/ding on the edge below the bridge tone control, from last night's gig.

and...

My MIJ '62RI strat.
handwound single coils courtesy of Rose Pickups, orange drop cap and alpha pots, graphtech saddles. Other than that, everything is stock.
Great '62....................have to ask, why would someone as young as yourself choose a '62?
Great great year for that Fender!!!

Great great year for that Fender!!!

it was actually my first electric guitar (but not my first guitar ever...I had a classical and an acoustic before I picked that up). I had no idea what to look for when i went into the store, but I went with my then guitar teacher. The store was small and had a limited selection, but they had some MIM Fenders and some MIJ. This just happened to be one of the guitars that i was attracted to. My guitar teacher said it played very well. So I got it.

Also...28 is young??

Are the Classic Vibe electronics crappy too ? I use mine stock and love its sound as is so I never messed with anything.

So many nice guitars in this thread ! lovin the SG love!

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

my ovation is the only guitar i really play anymore. i was already leaning toward it as my #1, but after finally getting it set up by a tech a few months ago, there has been no doubt that it has become king of the pile.
