Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

My #1: For many years I'd been dreaming about owning a custom guitar. I finally found myself a good paying job and put together this Warmoth Strat a few months ago. I haven't been able to put it down since. Even my Fender American Deluxe HSS sounds lame and dull compared to this one.

I always go back to her as she is my baby. She is sweet and nice yet has the scream of a German women in battle.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

My Fernandes Telecaster which I acquired last 2011. Japan domestic, Fernandes TE-60, Year 1992, 8th production model, as it was told to me by a TDPRI member. It sports Rutter's saddles, Bourns pots, Good-All PIO tone cap, Dimarzio Twang King neck pickup and Frettech Cavalier Lion bridge pickup.

#1 - PRS SE Singlecut Korina - its either a 2009 or 2010. I know it was in the store for a while but I bought it in 2010. She has a '59 neck and a Crazy 8 in the bridge.

Very close second - ESP LTD MV-200 - probably 2002-2003. Its a replacement of one of the same model that was stolen a few years back. She's currently stock but will have my beloved JB in the bridge. HR101 stays in the neck.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

This is my #1:

Ibanez RGR320 Gold Arctic Frost (GAR) (although the "gold" looks more like a green to me), limited edition run from Year 2007, bought it new in 2008. Its Wizard neck took a while for me to get used to (after having primarily played Fender Strats for the previous 7 years), but now it's what feels right to me.

That's a Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell in the neck. I tried various aftermarket pups in the bridge, but ultimately came back to the stock Designed by EMG pup. I like a lot of clarity even in my high gain tones, and found that the aftermarkets were too hot right out of the gate. With these pup choices, I feel the guitar is very versatile, yielding great clean tones and high gain tones.

This guy is also sporting a Tremol-no in his trem cavity.

It was only a few weeks ago that I expanded the bridge cavity (the side facing the neck) so I could squeeze in the Roland GK3 pickup behind the bridge pup. I placed the Roland interface unit off center (vs. sitting on the body strap pin), so I could still easily access the Floyd's fine tuners. I was worried that moving the bridge pup 6-8mm forward would negatively affect the tone, but was happy to find that this move actually enhanced the "notched" sound of Position 2 (both humbuckers in parallel), with no discernable affect on the bridge-only tone. I am still into Strat-type sounds, so this benefit was a happy surprise. I also went the extra mile and spray painted the silver metal jacks on each end of that patch cable from the Roland unit to the guitar's output jack, to black to match the black hardware on the guitar.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

For me it depends on the style of gig I'm playing. For the country rock stuff...definitely Les Paul. For the straight ahead country gigs...either a strat or a telly. For working a duo or a single...my Joe Pass Epiphone. Sometimes I use which ever one has the best set of strings on it. For rock gigs almost any guitar will do.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

I'm torn because if we are talking about most TOTAL play time over the life of the instrument mine would be my 97 R8. Right now though it's sporting the zebra Seth/'78 uncovered.

Now over the last few weeks I've been playing my CU24 a TON. I'm finally super close on the pickups PG(b) and Distortion. It's strange how much more I've played it lately. It's getting picked up 90%+ if I'm ready to play.

That said, I've taken the same two guitars to almost every gig over the last year. My EBMM 25th anniversary and 2 tone hardware, striped out, and TV Jones equipped Electromatic 5120.

Excuse the crappy iPhone pics. I also had to throw in my two Souldier straps. Great looking/feeling straps!

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Lately my go to is a Warmoth Strat that I slapped together over the course of the last few months

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Sorry, but I don't have one "go to" guitar. I have four. Any one of them will do it all but, depending on the time, place and genre, some do it better than others.

American Standard Tele/Warmoth neck.

Gibson LP Studio

Yamaha SA 2200 for the 335 thing

Strat HH build just because I just don't need for quack.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

CIJ52RI with El Dorado bling is the 1

Cort Matt Guitar Murphy with APH-2's is my HB go to guitar
and the Cort Larry Coreal with 59's and now sporting a Bigsby B6
is my "fun" unplugged around the house guitar.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

I think it depends on the gig as to what guitar is my favorite. For Country, a strat, a Tele or a Les Paul work very well. For rock and blues, a strat or a Paul. For solo gigs and jazz gigs I prefer my Eppy Joe Pass.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Oh hey, a Rectoverb! I wish I still had mine.

Yup! I love it man, great tones out of it. I use the clean channel cranked up on the pushed mode for classic rock sounds, and the modern channel gets great rock and metal tones. I had a dual recto in college and I much prefer this one. I think I've gotten older too, and take advantage of its versatility too. In college I only used the DR for face melting metal stuff. I get a lot more use out of this bad boy.
