this is an example of a subjective answer. to say people dont know what they are talking about because they are stating OPINION is nonsensical. i think we can all respest your opinion, so i think you should do the same.

Uhhh read again. I never bashed anyone for expressing their opinion, however, when people try to dismiss their opinion that it's "sterile or lifeless" as fact that's when people really don't know what they are talking about.

Furthermore, some of the same people try ONE EMG with ONE amp and/or ONE guitar then arrive at this sweeping generalization.

No offense dude, but you're the typical kind of guy who doesn't like the way their guitar sounds with them then bags the whole company.

Actually, I don't.

I love the sound of the Tele Little 59' but didn't like the Quarter Pounders. I loved the sound of Dimarzios Tone Zone but hated the Evolution. I dug the neck pickup in Fenders 59/62 set but greatly disliked the middle and bridge.

Unlike alot of folks I pass judgement on things and form an opinion on gear that I have owned and used for a decent amount of time. Were not talking "played it in a guitar shop for ten minutes".....were talking having owned, played, rehearsed and gigged it.

You could have put ANY pickup in that guitar and it might not have been the sound you wanted....if I gave up on Duncan after the first THREE pickups I tried from them I'd never be a Duncan fan. Passive or active, not all pickups work well with all setups. For every guitar that sounds good with a JB in it I can find at least two that sound like ass.....are Duncans crummy?

I went through the Duncan 59's and I believe their Alnicos before I went with EMGs in teh Tele. Unless EMG makes different pickup sets for Teles (which at the time of install they only made one) then I'll have effectively sampled all they have to offer in the world of Telecaster replacement pickups.

Just because YOU can't get them to work doesn't mean they are crummy pickups by a longshot.

Did my little caveat about the metal kids fall on deaf ears?

And didn't Gilmour use the EMGs on the whole Pulse recording?

He sure did.

...and the day that Gilmour plugs directly into the amp and we can subtract the tone he gets from his astounding ability is the day you'll get to actually hear what they sound like.

Dave's a fab player....but let's be fair....he's got molre outboard gear going on than NASA. I caught the video for "Learning To Fly" the other night and his rig looked like it required it's own seperate generator.

But you just did EXACTLY that. You bought ONE pickup and are making blanket statements about EMGs.....

No, I heard you loud and clear....apparently that doesn't appy here though.

So we're attributing his good tone to strictly his playing and his rack gear now?

But if we agreed his tone was bad it definitely would be the pickups I guess.....

The fact of the matter is that more than just "metal kids" use EMGs and those people have good tone as well. Furthermore there are tons of people who can't get a JB to work for them in their setup either......we don't go bashing the JB the same way as EMGs now do we??

I like the EMG 81's, they give an awesome metal sound. However, I've heard that those EMG HiZ pickups are pretty &%*#.

IMHO, EMGs are metal-only pickups, I don't think they're very versatile.

That's why I like Duncans.

Depends on which ones you get. Ron Eschete, 7-string jazz man, uses them and they don't sound anything like metal, though I'm sure they're not the high output variety. I tried his guitar once and I just didn't like the tone though. Cold and sterile is right.

A battery, from the moment you use it, is loosing its charge, think of a rollercoaster....when you insert a fresh battery, your at the top of the first hill...the rest of the time you use it its all downhill from there as far as charge is concerned......Having said that...imagine if your doing tracks in the studio, not on the same consecutive days, imagine how the tracks will have a slightly different sound, even though you used the same settings.

Not true, any more than each ounce of gas you burn while driving your car makes the car perform at a lower and lower level. Like a car, the battery runs at top performance until that moment when enough electrons have passed through that it is no longer able to produce that 9-volt differential. Only then does the voltage begin to drop and you hear it fade, like a car engine stuttering and skipping when the needle hits E.
