Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

Re: Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

Meh....just replace the tube on your own.

If it works without issue then it's likely the tube busted in transition.

What do you expect? It's made of glass and likely shipped inside the unit.

I'd put it on par with whining about a guitar showing up with a broken string.

I have to agree. Tubes go bad. It may very well have worked the last time the seller used the pedal. My opinion is buy a replacement and move on.

Re: Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

You're 100% correct about the dollar amount not mattering... a rip-off is a rip-off, whether it's for $5 or $100, and should not be blown off or tolerated.

Only one problem: you can't prove you've been ripped off. You don't even know yourself if you've been ripped off.

Exactly right.

Re: Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

I can see your point, Millstart. I'm all about the fundamental principles, too. I would have sent you another tube, or docked 10 bucks if I was the seller. If it had happened to me, I would have bought another tube and played guitar!

Re: Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

Save yourself the time and energy and just buy a tube. You say the 15 bucks isn't the problem, so why not buy a $15 tube and move on? If it turns out that the unit itself is jacked up then by all means go after the guy. I kinda get what your saying but I think your making more of the situation than it needs to be. All this time and energy over 15 bucks? Seriously?.... Get a new tube and move on.... :)

Okay.....I think I know what might work.

Go buy the tube. Install it. Verify that it resolves the issue.

After that email the guy and tell him "The tube probably busted in transit. I've heard of this happening before. In the future if you ship something with tubes you may want to remove it from the device and pack it securely. I could do a UPS damage claim but it's more trouble than either of us likely want to deal with."

You give him the benifit of doubt. He doesn't HAVE to do anything, but if he were a fine upstanding guy the opening is there for him to do it.

...of course this is mostly a moot point because you went after him like a total Chooch and he doesn't want anything to do with you anymore.

But consider it a lesson learned. Don't sweat the petty stuff....

Re: Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

...and don't pet the sweaty stuff.

Nice....

I knew someone was going to get to that, I just didn't think it would be so quickly.

However....I would maintain that some of the most fun I have started, explicitly, with petting the sweaty stuff.

NO! I did not go after him like a "chooch" (Again thanks for the insults guys, here I though you guys where friends)

I nicely emailed him for over a week explaining the situation and looking for his help. All well within his stated 7 day return policy mind you.

He refused to respond to both his paypal and ebay emails.

Only after filing a dispute did he then choose to respond tell me "tough luck, sale is final"

So again who's the "Chooch" besides YOU ???

Re: Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

And again "brothers" please help me understand dollar values vs principle as you see it.

$10 isn't worth complaining about and I'm a "chooch" right who sweats and/or pets sweaty stuff ? Agreed ?

So lets say you buy a product that says it includes an a/c adapter and you don't get one ?

Do you let that go as well ? Its only a $10 part of so right ?

I'm just a foolish, naive, idiot who list items accurately and checks and doublechecks to make sure everything I said would be included.

Silly me, here I've forgoten to include a small part before such as a cord and I like a total fool overnight mailed it out to the buyer so they'd have it when the item arrived.

How dumb huh ??

I should of simply let them wonder where the cord was when they opened the amp and if they tried contacting me, simply tell them its their problem and to just go out to the store and buy one, its only a few bucks.

Nerve of some buyers expecting everything to be included and to work. Geez.....

by the way, I'm sure I'll probably be on alot of you guys ignore list now and I can only say the feeling is mutual.

Re: Your opinion needed on bad ebay transaction

I would be interested to see how you approached him in your emails.

If you went after him with half the zeal you started this thread with then I likely wouldn't have responded to you either.

It has less to do with the actual issue and more likely the manner in which you went about it.

It's a $15 part that you knew likely was the cause of the issue.

Bottom line is that it's just being petty....and you're well within your legal right to be petty.....but not being a pain about it is going to go alot further to being that way and getting a resolution rather than just being an annoyance that reminds everyone of the pitfalls of doing business on eBay.

Seriously....this is the equivilant of a guitar showing up without a broken string or a rack-mount unit without the standard power lead; it's minor. Let it go...

The difference is that there's plausability that the tube broke in transit.

Not sending the power supply should be approached with some tact and room to allow the seller to resolve it in their own manner and NOT back them into a corner.

But you shouldn't hang your hat on it....they may very well believe that they sent it and unless you can prove them wrong there's nothing you can really do.

It's an admirable thing. it puts you above other sellers.

...but unfortunmately there's no way to measure, illustrate or quantify it.

If you want everyone you interact with to be as excellent as you then you're going to need to never leave your house or move to a desert island.

I should of simply let them wonder where the cord was when they opened the amp and if they tried contacting me, simply tell them its their problem and to just go out to the store and buy one, its only a few bucks.

I did that once.

I forgot the standard power lead so I PayPal'ed them the cost of the cord and sent them a link to a place locally that sold them. I told them that money travels faster than the cord would and they seemed to appreciate the gesture.

Nerve of some buyers expecting everything to be included and to work. Geez.....

I'm not going it Ignore you....but I certainly will consider this when it comes to doing any business with you.
