Hey, just wondering, what type of switch do you prefer, Fender/Blade style, slider (like on the fender mustang or Gibson style?

Re: Your opinion on switches

I prefer the fender style...the Gibson switches just feel cheap personally...don't know why

Re: Your opinion on switches

None, single pickup... but if I gotta choose, toggle. Oddly, blade switches seem cheap to me.

Re: Your opinion on switches

Sliders feel cheap to me! Either toggle or blade is ok, as long as it's a real, beefy switch, not the black box import style. I like how solid a good toggle feels, but I like the extra options of the 5 way blade.

I agree man. I've got two guitars with toggles, and 3 with blades. Although, I've got 2 vintage style 3 way blade switches (with the spring) and they do feel much better than the newer style

Re: Your opinion on switches

Really, to me the type of switch doesn't matter. I have enough skill to flip a switch :cool2:, and I typically set up the pickup selection beforehand and only use the volume knob to change sound while playing. Occaisionally, I'll need to change pickups during a song, and then the switch just needs to have a strong detent or positive action to easily tell it's set correctly. For that, the manufacturer of switch matters more to me.

If Fender blade, it needs to be CRL with the spring and positive snapping action to set the position.
If Gibson toggle, it needs to be Switchcraft for the same reason.
If slider, it also needs to be Switchcraft for the same reason.

Anything that doesn't crumble and break.

Re: Your opinion on switches

when i'm strumming wildly on my strat the 5 way switch always gets hit by accident and switches from the pickup i was grooving to. i prefer the gibson style. with a strat i use the bridge and neck pickups 99% of the time anyhow. i'm thinking about modding the hell out of the pichguard, pickup config and switch.

Re: Your opinion on switches

The PRS 5 way rotary knob switches are the worst of the bunch but still work just as well once you get used to them.

Re: Your opinion on switches

All of them..... Obviously it depends on the guitar, but I really do like al of them and don't necessarily like one better then another....

I had a strat style guitar that swapped the wiring of the neck and middle pups at the switch. Ithe allowed me to use the bridge and neck together and switch from the bridge to neck quicker. Granted, I did have to sacrifice the bridge/middle selection, but I've never really used that one any way

Re: Your opinion on switches

A Fender style super-switch is pretty damned awesome. Cheap, easy to wire any way you want, easy to use. What else do you want in a switch??

Re: Your opinion on switches

I seem to accidentally hit Gibson-style toggles less than the others -- though that has more to do with placement than anything else -- so those are my preferred. But with a lot of wiring configs, they're just no feasible.

Re: Your opinion on switches

My favorite pickup selector switches are three-way blades. I wish Strats still came with them, as I find five-ways annoying and sometimes hard to get to quickly land on the right position.

Gibson-style switches are fine by me too, though I do prefer the feel and solidity of blade switches.

Re: Your opinion on switches

All I have is Gibson-style 3-ways and I get additional sounds with push-pulls and alternative wirings, like spin-a-split. I'm content with that. I can get far more PU combinations and sounds than with a 5-way lever.

Re: Your opinion on switches

Gibson Switchcraft switches. I got all my EPI LP switches replaced with em, cuz their durability. I used Fender 3 way teles and they feel cheap. But how durable it is? Here(RIP Randy Rhoads)http---makeagif.com--media-11-22-2014-QKfF2X.jpg

Re: Your opinion on switches

word of caution for SPDT or DPDT mini toggles. spare no expense when buying these, specially if u are up for series/parallel switching. many of the flimsy junk don't last long, and ends up with intermittent connectivity ruining ur play in both positions
