Your vote for the BEST AMP out of the box, NO TWEAKING!

I want to know what you think the BEST AMP OUT OF THE BOX IS... NO TWEAKS ALLOWED, NOT EVEN NEW TUBES OR THE CONTROLS. That might eliminate some Marshalls and Boogies for sure.

Esp. some Boogie where all of mine require days AND manuals to get the right settings.

I mean an amp that goes with most any speaker (or comes with the right combo), and just goes into the club and does it!

My votes: Mesa Mark 2c+ combo, Blockhead, Orange AD30, Soldano Avenger, VHT Deliverance, Bogner Shiva, Vintage Fender Super Reverbs, Twins, Bassmans, Vibroverbs, and Deluxes (mid to early 60s).

59 Bassman, Super Reverb or Twin Reverb

Re: Your vote for the BEST AMP out of the box, NO TWEAKING!

Fender Deluxe Reverb....volume, bass, treble and reverb and suoer easy to dial in.

I gotta say the Mission Aurora...either the 18 watt or 30 watt.

But I love my Matchless Chieftan too.

I love my old blackface Deluxe Reverb, and I play that amp more than any amp I own, but I've modded it quite a bit and it's not stock at all. Not that crazy about the Fender RI version of it.

Soldano SlO100. I dont even know if I set it right, it just sounded godly right off the bat.

Holland Little Jimi
Celtic Edana
Fender Bassman (AB165 circuit)
Fender Vibroverb (G circuit - 2X10)
Fender Deluxe Reverb
Fender Super Reverb
Matchless Chieftain

In that order

Don't have too much experience with a whole lot of different amps, but from the ones I've tried so far I'd have to say the Peavey 5150 head.

Fender '57 Twin RI. Mine was backdated with NOS 12AY's by the original owner, but the first one i played through was bone stock and it convinced me to buy one immediately!!!!!!

5150. It sounds good on any sane setting.

I've only played a 5150 once, when they first hit the market. I could not find a clean tone on it.

I'd like to get my hands on a Vox AC30 or a Celtic Franklin.

There's not even a clean channel ;).

Early 70's Marshall 100 watt Super Leads.
Mullard Tubes and slightly hotter sounding than most of their 60's counterparts.

Now if I only had a time machine!!!!

My Mission Amps 5B4 V Front Super was perfect out of the box! NOS tubes, handwired board with all top notch parts, Weber VST speakers, handmade pine cab with perfect tweed (hand applied and sprayed in nitro). It is easily one of the best amps I have ever played through! I guess thatis cheating a little since I ordered custom from Mission Amps like that!

Next to that my Sound City 50+ is dead stock and killer...it's a 73 or 74, it's never even had a cap job but it is loaded with NOS Mullard EL34's and NOS Amperex Pre amp tubes! I plug it into a 4x12 cab loaded with a matched set of Fanes form a 1971 HiWatt cab and let it rip...sounds great.

I FORGOT THE MATCHLESS CHIEFTAN, though I know the DC and Lightning better.

Early 70s Marshalls are inconsistent, so I think they DO need tweaks. Lord knows, mine sounds UNREAL now that I put new caps on it and had service.

I feel the 5150s need tweaks as well, in order to get an amazing sound. SLO, hmmmm I might agree on that.

Deluxe Reverbs, at least the NEW ones need new speakers, boards, tranny's to sound Holy Grail-ish. Yes, they are easy to set

That's OK...I mentioned it.:laugh2: It's one of the very best amps I've ever owned.

See sig...plugged straight in to it with a bunch of different guitars...the tone of heaven!

Re: Your vote for the BEST AMP out of the box, NO TWEAKING!

There are alot of amps that I really like, and want to try. But the Mesa F-series amps are absolutly awesome!

I cannot get my JCM800 to sound bad. I actually am having great luck with everything on 7 (except the master volume of course)
