Zakk wylde les paul

I found a gibson zakk wylde les paul in a local shop. The serial number dates it to 1996. It has passive emg hz pups with no batter compartment on the back. Which worried me because i was under the impression that all Gibson zakk wylde sig models had the emg 81/85 set from factory. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I think that the Epis have the HZ's.

Yeah, I did a google and the Epi is the only one with the passives. If there is no battery slot I'm thinking it might be a chibson.

Also, I'd snap a couple of photos and check with a gibson/lp forum as those guys can usually spot a fake. (or give you the skinny on what's happening)

That is definitely a Chibson....

Its fake. The serial number should start with a "ZW" and should be ink stamped. Gibson never used that style or size of the engraving for the serial number. The diamond on the headstock looks too small as well. The back of the neck should be raw wood. It looks like it has a shine to it from the pictures. 99.9% sure its fake

The serial number definitely identifies it as a Chibson. That's a Gibson USA serial number stamped in the wrong font on a supposedly Custom Shop guitar.

another give away is that Gibson didn't use "made in the USA" in 1996, nor on a custom shop les paul

I have been looking at Chibsons for the past two weeks
looks very Asian to me

does it have large posts or small?

You know, it's like Ibanez, there are the TON of crappy knock-off chibanez, chibson, whatever, I pride myself of at least trying to know what there is something that isn't right, being able to at least sense a fake.

This one is really obvious.

No, because as far as I can remember Gibson never made a Les Paul with bullseye finish, Epiphone did.

Yeah it felt weird. Im not at all a gibson guy so i figured id check so i didnt pass up that gem. But thanks for the input guys.
