zebrawood fretboard on an SG style - Yeah or Nah ?

Re: zebrawood fretboard on an SG style - Yeah or Nah ?

I think it will be ****ing awesome like all your stuff. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Re: zebrawood fretboard on an SG style - Yeah or Nah ?

I like the idea of doing different woods - makes it special.

Paduak looks very nice in clear finish. Looking forward too. Your guitars look nice.

Really nice! My preference is to tie in knobs to the non-dominant color, in this case something complimenting your zebra wood fret board. Not sure what that color of knob would be......but your contrast (as is) says it all, cool!

I'm using gold hardware so was going to go with gold metal knobs or Gibson style gold plastic ,Do you think gold frets would be a bit too much ?

Re: zebrawood fretboard on an SG style - Yeah or Nah ?

I like the idea of using different types of wood for fingerboards. There are so many different types out there. I once used black and white ebony for my electric cello fingerboard. It looks over the top badass. I always suggest changing it up every build, so yes go with something a little different.

I've only used gold frets once and that was against an ebony fret board, I don't know how gold would look against a lighter fret board. One thing for sure if you have tuners, and jack, and bridge, and knobs/switches all gold, it could also work well on the fret board.

Do it.

Now this sounds interesting - got a pic?

Okay, this is my first time posting a pic on the S.D. forum, so let's hope this works.

This is a finished picture of the cello. I used many types of wood, and used real shellac to finish it.

Here's a picture of the fingerboard after it was shaped, but before it was put on the neck.

I hope you like the little bit of work I did there. It was a neat project, but I never want to do that again. It was pretty intensive. It sounds pretty good, but man it's heavy as heck. Let me know if you would like any other pictures. Or you can see all 100 and some on the photobucket page. Take care.

Decided the contrast between the yellowish Zebrawood and the gold frets was not quite right so I dyed the fretboard black ,I pressed in the frets with a little epoxy glue and wiped the excess off with some lacquer thinners which made the grain come back through

Fretboard is now attached to the neck :naughty:

Looks good ChAoZ! Keep it up
How did you like working with the Evo fret wire?

Thanks for the support guys ,The Evo fret wire was a lot harder to cut than normal Nickel wire - but being the cheap bugger I am, I use modified hardware store cutters which work well with their long handlesIMG_0239.jpg

Re: zebrawood fretboard on an SG style - Yeah or Nah ?

Well, the dyed board looks very sharp; however, I loved the look of that Zebrawood before. Cool project though!

Re: zebrawood fretboard on an SG style - Yeah or Nah ?

Wow, gorgeous build. That's gonna be a killer guitar when you're finished, very unique (in a good way). :)
