ZEPHYR SILVER PICKUPS

Re: ZEPHYR SILVER PICKUPS

I got halfway through page 2 and stopped. I can't read any further.

Suffice it to say that if you've got the spare cash, get a set and put them in a guitar you feel just doesn't get "that" sound with the thousands of other readily-available and more affordable pickups, having tried all possible wiring combos, and having done all possible magnet swaps.

Otherwise, simply keep using the same pickups that have worked like a charm for millions of players the world over. Whether that's 1950s originals or the newest SD model to roll off the production floor.

I mean, what's anyone going to do, compare them to their other pickups? Yeah, right.
What's more likely is you'll buy a set, love them, and then want them in every guitar.

To keep the thread on track, we have begun shipping them, so some reviews may pop up. Though I'm not sure whether the typical Zephyr customer is also the forum poster type. I really have no idea. In addition we have now had many users and a lot if the folks at Sweetwater including Mitch Gallagher try them, each discovering the same things we've found in these pickups. Many had never read our literature on the subject, and remarkably began saying a lot of the same things that are in the catalog. Hopefully more reviews will cone soon. When Sweetwater posts their "Mitch's Minute" we'll link it.

Re: ZEPHYR SILVER PICKUPS

I can't wait for the reviews to start coming in. It's pretty ****ing tiring, hearing people calling BS on them, when they've never even heard, let alone used them.

When I have the cash, I'll try a set. I know my Hamer Korina Vector pretty well, and withthe C5/59 combo, it rocks pretty hard. I get a reenlistment bonus in October, and God willing, I'll have a little something to throw at SD.

Re: ZEPHYR SILVER PICKUPS

I think there are a lot of us who would love to hear a set of these pickups. I know I would. They almost have a mystique about them now as far as I'm concerned. It's almost romantic for lack of a better term. I'm not the kind of person who blows things off as BS until I hear, feel, smell, whatever. I like being intrigued; it keeps the blood flowing, lol. I remember how I wanted a Gibson Les Paul for so long after I started playing. When I finally got one, it was everything I dreamed plus more. Of course this was in 1980 and I was only sixteen, ha ha. But I got it after I actually played the guitar, which was also the first one I had ever played. I totally understood all the hoopla after I got my grubby hands on one. I'm dreaming that these pickups will be the same thing. Of course at that price range, they are a pickup for a certain sect of the market and I'm sure there are going to be people who plop down the cash for these pickups and will be pretty darn glad that they did.

Maybe these pickups will only give that little bit more that we didn't even know existed because we've never heard them. And for some of us, it will be worth it to pay hundreds of dollars for them to get that. Kind of like some of us lose that fifty pounds, but can't get that last ten off, but you know what? We're satisfied with that fifty that we lost, and darn right we should be. Then there's the people who can't be happy until they get rid of that extra ten. They feel unfulfilled; very unhappy even with their success. So they get liposuction and pay thousands of dollars for it.

The Zephyrs equal liposuction. Can you dig it?

Re: ZEPHYR SILVER PICKUPS

I know this only Youtube so it's hard to tell a difference but listening to the bridge pickup with a little gain I much preferred the sound of the non-Zephyr pickup. The Zephyr sounded kind of choked and, frankly, like a cheap pickup.

Re: ZEPHYR SILVER PICKUPS

I think I understand what all the fuss is about with the Zephyrs. I also think that some people even if they bought a pair still might not like them. But from what I have gathered they have a feel to them that other pups don't but some players might not like that level of dynamics or might not even have a rig good enough to really use them to their full potential. I understand now what Orpheo meant by a vid clip could not really do them justice unless you record it with a good set up. It's just like you never know how bad your guitar is until you play something of better quality. So just like these Zephyrs you won't believe how good they actually are till you play them yourself. Sure regular pups are not bad we used them for ages but we always figured their was something better out their and here it is. Yes these pups are aimed at people who can afford them and pros who have the skills who can use the pup to their full potential.
