zvex nano amp + orange 2x12 = WOW!

so i picked up these 2 things up last week. WHOA!!! this amp really is incredible. in the store i first tried it with a heritage 2x12. nice amp, sounded good. but when paired with the orange it sounded really massively fat, HUGE, and crunchy. as a matter of fact when i first plugged it in that 1/2 of a watt sounded so big i had to reconsider whether i should get it. my whole point with this purchase was to get something i could dime into tube overdrive in my bedroom. but it sounded so good i had to have it. i'm sure all of you can relate getting whipped up into a frenzy with the GAS :headbang:
i can't say enough about this amp. and it will also most likely encourage the purchase of a hot plate now nder: currently i'm playing the thing with the volume at 12:00. anyone considering the purchase of this should take volume into consideration. it sounds funny thinking about that being that it's 1/2 watt and very tiny. but trust me, it's loud.

and orange. this cab is constructed so well i feel like i could throw it off my roof and it would still be working after. very solid. i'm a very very happy boy now. i can say right now my gear is better than it's ever been.

Congrats! Those Orange 2x12s are fantastic. The other guitarist in my previous band had one. Huge sound, better thump and projection than some 4x12s I've heard :fing2:

I was also amazed at how loud the Nano was when I first got it. It's a cool little amp fer sher! Hey, have you had any trouble getting yours to "boot up?" Sometimes I'll need to plug and unplug the power several times before it'll come up. The little "fuse" LED keeps coming on. So far it's always worked eventually!

Theoretically a ½ watt amp is half as loud as a 5 watt amp, which is pretty loud.

rog951, no i haven't had any trouble getting mine to power up. but the weather in norcal lately has been fine. his website talks about how during cold weather you may need to try a few times. maybe i'll find out more about this next winter!

tonedeaf, why is 1/2 a watt as loud as 5 watts? did you mean 1/2 a watt of a tube amp is the same as 5 watts from solidstate?

He meant that 5W would be about twice as loud as 1/2W.

Who has experience with that Orange cab with a larger (say Rectifier, 5150, MK4, Marshall) amp? I'm half looking for a sealed 2x12 for my Road King Combo gain channels...

That Nano looks sweet, If I had a cab (see above ) I'd definitely try it out. Cool stuff. :bigok:

I've blasted a JCM800 through one of those Orange 2x12s. Awesome sound, they really do sound twice thier size. I only bought my 4x12 instead because it sounded as good, but was cheaper and looked better with my Marshall head.

I'm interested in these zvex nano heads. I'm looking at one of those or a Matamp Minimat.

i mentioned in another thread i almost made a decision to go with the matamp minimat. but at $700 and being backordered i decided against it. also, i don't think there was any way for me to try one out first in the states. they do look awesome though. built in attenuator is a nice feature. all that being said i am 1000% happy with my nano. and i truly love the sound of the orange cab. pure rock tone!

i've heard really good things about the orange tiny terror giving out a solid hard rock, but not high gain, tone. i think it's 15 watts.

The Minimat is the same price as the nano here in the UK, soIthink thats what i'll pony up for.

nice! the funny thing is that when i add up the cost of the nano *plus* the cost of the thd hotplate i bought yesterday the price is around.......$700! oh well. as i said i appreciated being able to try it out locally first.

kyuss_rock, i hear you can take a tour of the matamp factory and try the stuff out there. is that true?

Yeah thats true, i've never been but I know a couple of people who have, they said its a damn cool place.
