Ernie Ball Pure Nickels
Thought I'd try pure nickel again after being stuck on elixir for so long. I was remembering that I used to use pure nickel a lot, usually Fender brand, but this time I figured I'd give EB a try. Stuck em on my SG.
Day 1: Loved em. Nice round bass and mellow attack on the wound strings, bright and strong on the plain strings. Cool!
Day 2: wound strings are mush! They are acoustically much quieter than yesterday. No snap or bite left in them. Really. The plain strings are still plenty bright, so playing clean leaves the plain strings standing out way too much.
Day 3: now the plain strings are settling down, things sound more even. Overall mellow, bluesy sound. Dark, thick, and quiet, good for blues, jazz and country I guess?
My SG is kinda a rounder, woodier, midrange-ier sounding instrument than anything I've ever owned. I should've known that pure nickel would probably make things too dark, especially for the neck pickup.
I'm gonna try another set of these on my strat and see if it doesn't work out.
