    Ernie Ball Pure Nickels

Thought I'd try pure nickel again after being stuck on elixir for so long. I was remembering that I used to use pure nickel a lot, usually Fender brand, but this time I figured I'd give EB a try. Stuck em on my SG.

Day 1: Loved em. Nice round bass and mellow attack on the wound strings, bright and strong on the plain strings. Cool!

Day 2: wound strings are mush! They are acoustically much quieter than yesterday. No snap or bite left in them. Really. The plain strings are still plenty bright, so playing clean leaves the plain strings standing out way too much.

Day 3: now the plain strings are settling down, things sound more even. Overall mellow, bluesy sound. Dark, thick, and quiet, good for blues, jazz and country I guess?

My SG is kinda a rounder, woodier, midrange-ier sounding instrument than anything I've ever owned. I should've known that pure nickel would probably make things too dark, especially for the neck pickup.

I'm gonna try another set of these on my strat and see if it doesn't work out.

the nickel EB tame single coils very well. I wouldn't recommend them for anythimg mahogany cause the neck will get allll sludgey

I like the Fender or D'Addario Pure Nickels much better than EB's. THey both hold tuning exceptionally well as well as playability. The Fenders I like more. A friend recommended them and he was right. I've been on pure nickel strings for well over 2 years now and love them.

Really? I thought exactly the opposite. Hated Cleartones, love Elixirs.

If your looking for a coated string definitely try cleartones. I like them a lot better than all the other coated strings I've tried. For nickel strings check out dr pure blues. I just got my first set a week ago and so far I love them.

Is there such a thing as coated pure nickel strings?

I'd love to put those in my Strat.
