I've always thought the 498T balanced best with the tone knob pretty low but the amp's treble set high enough to make the neck pickup sparkle and cut. Gibson seems to really like to do the "darker neck pickup, really bright bridge pickup" thing.

Also, the middle position with the bridge coil cut engaged is a great sound. Never found the neck split to be very exciting.

498T w/ an A5 and the 490R w/ an A2. Came stock with 500k pots and push pull coil splits. The jury is still out on them. I'm still turning knobs and trying my different amps.

Mine came with the 500k pots and push pull coil splits - I EFFING LOVE THEM with my pickup combo of SD screamin Demon Pearly Gates

Screaming Demon in an LP. That's interesting on it's own.

That's my favorite LP bridge humbucker by far. It would def rock out with your dsl and rectos.

I am EFFING PO'd! I finally get to plug in and either the bridge pickup is no good, or the push pull isn't any good. I checked the wiring and the switch. All the solder joints look good. I have to go buy some batteries for my multimeter, so I can't tell which it is at this point.

I should not be having this problem with a brand new $1400 guitar. Period.

I'm not going to punish American Musical Supply for Gibson's ****up. Besides, there's no guarantee that I'll like the one they exchange it for. Gibson will be making it right though.

I've already called Gibson and left a message with their repair dept. I didn't figure anyone would be there as it's after 5 P.M. here. I'm sure I'll eventually put new pickups in it some time down the road. The point of the matter is, it's brand freaking new. According to the checklist card, it was built exactly 1 month ago today. This is the kind of crap you have with cheap import guitars. Not US made guitars that cost over a grand. There is no way it was even checked at the factory.

Whether I send it back to AMS or to Gibson, either way, I don't get to play my new guitar that I just freaking got today.

I need a store that stocks Gibson and left handed guitars near by. Then I probably wouldn't be having this problem.
