I had forgotten the joy of playing through a high output PU

I've been mainly playing clean to light dirt through a 59 and a Pearly Gates for the past year or more. Once in a while I'll crank the gain and do some noodling, but not too much.

Today I got to install a SD Distortion in a customer's guitar and WOW! What a cool pickup. Sounds great even with classic rock amounts of gain. Much "clearer" sounding than I expected. FUN to play through! Made me wish my band played more rock tunes.

Anyway, I'd never played a Distortion and was happily surprised. I think this would be a great PU for a lot of rock stuff, as well as metal of course.

I'm really looking forward to the 59/custom I have on order.

Yeah man. I've moved away from high-power pickups myself, just for my personal tastes and playing style... but sometimes, when you just gotta ROCK, high output buckers are super fun.

It's like power steering. You don't have to "work" or "fight" as hard for that great solo sustain.

Imagine how much fun this pickup was before master volume amps and high-gain circuits.

That's basically the kind of rig I was running it though...although the amp is just a little 20 watter. The pickup juices the amp just right. Bump it with an OD and stand back!

I know, I know...I'm describing joys that were first discovered 40 odd years ago...I digress.

The distortion IMO is one of the most amazing high out put pickups made

I like both high and low output models, the duncan distortion and tone zone are two of my fav hotter fire breathers:cool:

The DD really isn't like most other high output pickups.

It has a characteristic high-pitched scream to it that really helps it paying attention to what you are playing in the first place. The thing doesn't just go off doing it's own thing ignoring the guitarist.

And it works in a wide range of guitars.
