I've been mainly playing clean to light dirt through a 59 and a Pearly Gates for the past year or more. Once in a while I'll crank the gain and do some noodling, but not too much.
Today I got to install a SD Distortion in a customer's guitar and WOW! What a cool pickup. Sounds great even with classic rock amounts of gain. Much "clearer" sounding than I expected. FUN to play through! Made me wish my band played more rock tunes.
Anyway, I'd never played a Distortion and was happily surprised. I think this would be a great PU for a lot of rock stuff, as well as metal of course.
I'm really looking forward to the 59/custom I have on order.
