Re: Best Pick up for EVH tone?

I have to say this even though i know first hand what eddie used ( seymour rewound P.A.F) i really think that VHoholic DIMES eddies tone with a duncan 59
i think it more the passion then it is the pup when it comes to a certain style?
like a own a zakk sig les paul but i sound nothing like him even tough i use the same gear as him?
zakk is much like EVH a truely phenominal player and they BOTH have a very DISTINCT style!
and i also feel our fellow member VHoholic shares this trait.
VHoholic is OBVIOUSLY GIFTED and from talking to him i can see he is a very good person in general

I WISH HIM THE ALL THE BEST!!!!

Edward for whatever reason decided to use a dimarzio to rewind it to a P.A.F
        spec?
i mean in 1979 he was doing pretty good financially so if wished he could horde all the paf's he wanted?
all i now is that edward was always very specific about TONE

Which of SD's single coils would EVH use? Off the shelf, let's say he's really in a bind and needs to put together an ax quick.

IF that was the case these would be HIS choice!

            JB Jr.™
SJBJ-1 This twin coil design pickup gives you the character of our popular JB™ model humbucker in a single coil size. Its adjustable pole pieces more closely emulate the magnetic field of a full size humbucker and allow you to fine tune the balance of your strings: a first for a humbucker this size. You can expect great harmonics and a sweet high-end. Use a complete set of Juniors or pair one in the bridge with our Duckbuckers in the neck and middle and have the quietest working man's Strat® around. U.S. Patent No. Des. 355,207.

I agree that he sounds EXACTLY like Hot For Teacher, which is a tone I don't care for. Too trebly/jangly/thin. I'd like to hear him with an EVH, or even a Demon with an A2.

EVHolic - could you give a recommended sonic recipe for say, the VHI, 1984 and maybe 5150 tones? Gain/b/m/t/Vol and effects (w/ settings) along with your preferred pup?

sorry that i am not VHoholic but if i can help i would like to tell you that eddie's tone is different from record to record.
I think to cover those tones you may find that a 59 is your best bet?
it is basically a PAF and will get as mean as your playing/amp will allow

                          Hey Holic,
Just reading (and listening, great job by the way!) about your gear and amps and such. The 5150 combos are becoming few and far between, aren't they?
Any advise for shopping? (Marshalls, etc.)
                          Thanks

Good choice but I`d say "Beautiful Girls" is the classic EVH tone. "Unchained" and "Meanstreets" also get a nod for kickass tone. Another pickup that get`s rave reviews for getting that brown sound is Genesis Mr Browney , read the reviews

                            The price isn`t bad either.
When asking for pickup suggestions please tell us what amp you`re using

He was using the Custom/59 Hybrid during the Fair Warning period... it was that tour that he told me about it.

Just to tell you guys about eddies plexi head supposedly it originally belonged to the the guy with an SG from birmingham ( hint hint ).

He got a signature amp and sold his old plexi heads as they were then redundant.

Who Iam I talking about guys??????????
