  • I usually EQ my amps with a lot of mids for body (7 to 8), a good amount of bass (6 to 8), and treble varies with the guitar & PU's (5 to 8). If there's a presence knob, I keep that pretty low, like 3 to 5. I use a beveled pick, and get bite & treble from that. To me, you have a lot of treble & presence. But whatever works for you. Phat Cats have twin A2's in each, and are pretty dark in the neck slot unless you have a bright guitar. Likewise in the bridge, the A2's are kind of puny. Magents quickly fix that. With magnets, you can do almost anything with a P-90 or HB-sized P-90, mixing any combination of alnicos, or even ceramics.
Maybe you can do some mag swapping on an Invader(obviously my fav pup, hence the username)But part of it could be that my EQ preference is pretty far out there.... lol. I set my marshall up like -- Presence 10, Bass 10, Mid 5, Treble 8.5. Some people think that it would sound terrible, but to my ears it sounds ungodly. So screw all the haters right ? Courious how you set up your amps ? I've been meaning to try one of those phat cats.
The forum color schemes sure could be better. For high output bridges, I like the C5, C8, 498T with an A8, and JB with an A2. I use some bridge PAF's, especially in LP's, and have gotten into Phat Cats this year (but replaced the magnets in all of them).
Hey blue. What's up ? I'm thinking they should have a background similar to a myspace layout that users can choose for their visitor page. So what's your favorite high output pickup ?
Thanks. I like to share what I've learned. I do specialize in certain guitars, PU's, and genres, but then almost everybody does. Let me know if I can help you out. Blueman
Just wanted to pass along a note telling you that I appreciate your posts. You've been an invaluable resource of information. Even for a guy that plays Gibsons *sniffs self-importantly, a la, Barney Fife*. :-)
I've just noticed your message. Thank you for info on Fleetwood Mac and encouragement. I know they went commercial later, but Jefferson Airplane is a more familiar example to me. I haven't watched more videos, mainly because I have no time these days. Sending a CD would be kind but I think it's not easy because I live in Europe. Well, I received something from Fender once, what a surprise. Fleetwood Mac have to wait a bit. Thanks anyway.
Hey. After reading many of your posts concering tone I was curious about your preferences. I saw Peter Green in you avatar and thought it would be a good path. Of course I heard of him before but I don't know his music. I found "Albatross" on YT. Man that's amazing! Thanks!
Dam, bought another strat and a squier jagmaster. Looks like the darkside will have to wait for a while...
wow, there are a lot of people who look up to you on this forum...
I saw at least 3 people say, contact blueman, he's the expert (or fill in another word)
    :)
How long have you been messing with pickups?
I will come to the darkside! I still have the mahogany tele deluxe that I need to get a mahog neck for. Just a tele in that it has a bolt on 25-1/2" scale and a tele shape. My vision of a telegib. It should be totaly the opposite of this strat!
I sold my ash tele, was going to get a epi lp. Ended up getting a mim fender strat and a set of surfers..Almost made it to the darkside..almost.
