    Wiring discussion

About a year or so ago, I removed one of the tone knobs from my HSS Stratocaster because I just can't play with the second one under my hand. If you had an HSS guitar with only two knobs, how would you wire it? I'm happy with the pickups--stock neck and middle single coils, PATB-1 bridge--and...

    Your Favorite Chorus Pedal

I see you're already on the Visual Sound/TrueTone bandwagon, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their Liquid Chorus. At least my experience with the H2O was a very good one. It ended up being a little too large for my pedalboard, so I moved on, but the sounds were second to none. I've...

    Looking at Tonex

I saw a video where Gus G. was showing it off as his “amp” on tour. If it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for any of us.

Next step up after the JB

PATB-1 is what you’re looking for.

Power Tubes for Mesa DC-3 Amp....?

When I was using EL84 amps, I never found Tung-Sols to be worth the price premium. I didn't find them to sound noticeably different, and I had some fail, whereas my JJs and Mullards did not. I'm going to second the recommendations for JJ power tubes, although in general, I'm not a big fan of...

    This is beyond stupid

Even if it's in the Guitar Shop, I see a title like this and wonder if it's about me. Six pages in, so if it were, it would be even more embarrassing.

What strings and picks are y'all using?

I use Elixir Optiweb .10s and .71 Gator Grips from Dunlop.

    NBD New Banjo Day

I just learned some new math, and not from the way my kids are learning. Guitar neck + Tambourine = Banjo

    NPD: Soldano SLO Plus

I'll give this pedal the highest compliment a pedal can get. It was inspiring to play today and sounded as good as my poor to intermediate guitar skills have ever sounded. That's the only reason we buy any of this gear, isn't it?

Okay, I guess I'm warming up to DiMarzios

Speak for yourself. I'll never allow my wig to be bucked. Ever.

    NPD: Soldano SLO Plus

I have a first generation G4 and an anniversary G3, and they both sound thin and buzzy and terrible into my clean channel and fantastic in the loop. I think it's my clean channel or settings that is or are the issue, not the pedal.

    NPD: Soldano SLO Plus

I finally let my gear lust get the best of me and got a mint used pedal on Reverb. Plugged it in hoping to hear all the Soldano glory and was slightly disappointed. Very thin, not enough gain, no bass at all. The cause? Operator error. I figured out that a bright, clean preamp just isn't...

Where do we stand on the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz?

Don't stand on it. Just press the selector switch and step off. No reason to stay there. Turn it on and let your music and toanz be awesome.

Any suggestion to replace a JB?

Welcome to the club! I'm a gigantic fan of the Custom, and I'm glad it's working out for you. I know my Les Paul has had over a dozen different bridge pickups in it, and I finally decided at least a year ago the stock SH-5 Custom was its match for life.

    Swapping speakers

Definitely depends on the day. I swapped out the Celestion Seventy/80s that came in my cabinet with an Eminence Governor and Wizard pair and would never ever go back to those basic and uninspiring Celestions. After eventually going through some WGS speakers and trying actual Vintage 30s, I...
