Hi everybody,
I have a problem that I'm sure people have run into in the past. I have a Telecaster with a single coil in the bridge (SD Jerry Donahue) and a humbucker in the neck (SD vintage mini HB). They're both run through 500K volume and tone pots. As many of you know, 500K pots are...
Hi there,
I have a custom Telecaster with a Paulowinia body. This thing is bright, bright, bright and a naturally loud guitar.
I currently have a GFS mini HB in the neck: http://www.guitarfetish.com/Fat-Mini-Fat-Alnico-V-Magnets-Chrome-Case-Our-Best-Neck-Position_p_492.html
I like it because...
I just put SD single coils in my Tele - love the sound.
My question is: is there anything I have to worry about in terms of PU maintenance? Will contact with other magnets demagnetize them or degrade the tone?
I'm seriously moments away from ordering a Broadcaster bridge pickup and a Vintage '54 neck pickup.
However, one lingering doubt that needs to be put to rest first.
What exactly is the difference between the standards and the Antiquities? I know about how they're aged to look like very old...

I'm looking at these pickups, which seem like replications of Barden pickups - single coil sized dual-blade humbuckers that boast high output, high midrange, and VERY high resonant frequencies considering their output - 10 khz for the bridge and 7...
I'm fairly confident at this point that I would like to order the SD Broadcaster bridge pickup and Vintage '54 neck pickup - however, I would like to order online as the stores near me do not keep these pickups stocked.
What would be a good online source? Musician's Friend does not keep a good...
I currently play a 2001 MIM Tele, and I've been thinking about changing out the pickups due to an overall blandness of the tone. Not much shimmer, very low bass on the bridge pickup. The tone is very brittle.
I feel that pickup swapping would be a good idea mostly because I like the way it...
It mentions on the STL-2 page that the pickup can be coil tapped. However, I was previously under the impression that only humbuckers could be coil tapped. How does this work with a single coil pickup? It mentions that the output is lowered while tapped, but I don't understand how this works...
Question 1:
What does it sound like to have three pickups all engaged simultaneously, say, on a Strat? Does it sound much different from having both the neck and bridge on?
----
Question 2:
If I were to add a pickup to a Tele (2 pickup guitar), and I didn't want to install a new switch...
I generally like reading from both pickups on a Tele as the two pickups are very complementary in terms of sound and design, HOWEVER, the neck pickup is way louder than the bridge most of them time - even after I raised the bridge pickup substantially and lowered the neck pickup.
I understand...
I've heard about people changing out the tone pots on their guitars to 1 meg pots, instead of the stock 250k pots. Is there a difference in sound, like the difference between volume pots?
What is the difference between bar magnets and alnico magnets? What is the tonal difference?
I'm curious because I've heard pickups in Travis Bean guitars (which are next to impossible to find) are essentially P90 pickups, but the main difference being that they have 6 rod magnets instead of 2...
