I had the 1w limited edition DSL that they made in UK. I think the new one is probably the same but made in China or India or wherever. It was a very good amp, and you could get away with it in band practice if your drummer has control of his dynamics. The stock speaker took a while to break in, but once it did, it sounded a lot better. Still, I'd usually disconnect the speaker and plug in a 1x12 cab with a Vintage 30 and it sounded really great. It's probably going to be a great little amp, and it will work at low volumes. However, you've got to understand that just because amps are low wattage, they tend to rely on some volume because they're designed to take advantage of soaking those little tubes. These days, you can get just as good or better tone from a 100w head than many of the low wattage amps out there. I didn't pay too much attention to the specs on the new one, but the UK ones had a little power reduction button and you could get all saturated at very low volume.

I'd personally much rather have the head. Those small speakers never sound all that great. Even if you're not really getting a 12" working, it'll sound a lot better through one.
I used to have a Randall 5W Diavlo combo. Even though I swapped the speaker for a G10 Greenback, which is a nice speaker as far as 10" speakers go, it never did sound as nice as it being run through a good 12" cabinet.

Yep I figured. Which would make a combo more economical. A quick glance at Guitar Center showed a 1 watt Marshall head at $300. The combo I listed above is the combo for $350.

A tad bit irrelevant, but have y'all ever seen that video on YouTube where they compare one 50w Marshall with 50 1w Marshalls? It's pretty funny.

5W sound cool if you get them cranking, but for me, it was too loud for bedroom practice. Hell, 1W sounds best at sorta mid to loud-ish TV volumes.
If you want quiet, no. I replaced my 5W Randall Diavlo with a 1W version. It sounds much better at bedroom volumes. Like MUCH better.

Get the DSL 15. It has 6V6 tubes and it sounds great, better than the new one with EL84s.

I have a Marshall jvm1c and love it! Was tryin to sell, but some woman”assumed by the name” would only offer 400 and then got rude with me going on about how she could buy one new at “her” music store for $800. First off, they sold for more than that when new, and If it had been sitting so long, no one wanted it and the store just wanted to get rid of it. So I kindly told her to pound sand, and just at that time I’d been getting ito nos tubes....So I took down the listing and filled the bad boy with all nos tubes!! Also had the crazy idea to put a g10 greenback in instead if the wimpy 8 incher...
Holy Hell im glad I didn’t sell..It’s a real tone machine now! I don’t know what I’d do without it...Great gain, but complexity and a “clearness” That wasn’t there before! I’d recommend going for it, and then put some nos tubes in...Went from collecting dust and not being used, to now being played nearly every day! Was the same with my TSL...had it since early 2000 and never did anything w/the amp, sounded uninspiring to put it lightly...Did nos and it’s a brand new amp! I hope if you get it that you’ll at least try a v1 change(The covered one!) Should wake it up and having you wish u did it sooner! Well, there’s my two cents, hope it helps!! Just remember they will be loud...I usually do the .1 watt and can still fill the bedroom w/sound! Good luck in your choice!

One single watt is still enough to piss off wives/babies/neighbors, so it's not like you'll get "cranked tube tone" 100% of the time.

Do you mean the new 20 watt DSL running EL34s? Based on experience with the 20 watt Jubilee it will probably destroy the old 15 watt DSL that ran 6V6s. The 20/5 watt Jube does. On that note, if you can swing it, get the 20 watt Jubilee before they are gone. You won't regret it. It can be clicked down to 5 watts and is a killer amp across the board.
The 20 watt DSL has the functions that the DSL 15 didn't, and can be clicked down to 10 watts with no change in tone, and has good master volume controls so you have it a bedroom volume if needed.
If your into more classic and less modern Marshall tones, then check out the new Origin series. The 50 watt can be clicked down to 10 watts or down to 1 watt. The 20 watt Origin can be clicked down to 5 watts or a bedroom friendly 0.5 watts.
