1 watt or 1/2 watt Tube amps

Hi guys,

Anyone ever play with any of these?

I heard something about the Firefly kits, and it sounds great to be able to crank some tubes, and record by micing say a single G12 greenback speaker.

They shouldn't be too expensive either, should they?

I remember a guy who was demoing the AC and DC boosters was using a 1 watt tube amp.

Which one would you recommed?

Yeah wow. I loved the clips in the AC booster demo of that amp. But that price is just crazy. I gotta learn how to do this stuff myself man... Save some major $$$. Who knows maybe i'll get one cheap someday.

I really really like my Blackheart killer ant. Great tone for quite cheap. Running it through a home-made 1x12 cab and it gets loud and gritty. The only thing that may be missing for some folks is a tone control but I don't miss it at all myself.

Honestly, for the money... The Egnater Rebel 20 is incredible! It goes from 20 watts down to 1 watt and could be a bedroom amp and a gigglng amp as well

I like my Killer Ant as well and it handles pedals well. Nice home/apartment rig. I too use a 1x12. I like the Swamp Thang with it.

My champion 600 uses a single 6v6, rated 4-5watt.

It's still louder than the average person would ever be able to use in an apartment.

There is an amp forum...AX84...they've got something overthere that is a build it yourself mini amp...take a look!

Great amp I've got a MK1 hooked up to a matching cab and all I can say its insanely loud, nobody believes me when I say its only 4watts.

IMHO and experience, 4-5 watts should still be WAY too much for an appartment (depends on the tolerance of the neighbors though)...

My killer ant (1 watt) through my 1x12 could not get any louder than approx. 1/4 of the volume without my previous neighbors hearing me clearly... my speaker was quite efficient though (eminence wizard) and the cab itself is built quite massively but still... those who pretend they can crank a 5 watt tube amp with neighbors downstairs have really really tolerant neighbors.

my zvex nano is AWESOME! worth every penny. played thru an orange 2x12 it's crunchy rock heaven. even a 1/2 watt is probably louder than you'd think.

Agreed 100%, even a Marshall MS-4 mini fullstack can be too loud for many living situations when cranked...

Thank God i live in a house with the nearest house to me being a min of 30-35meters (ft ???) from me ! I am also the very last house in a dead-end street, so there is only one house next to me and one on the other side of the very, very big roundabout !

Thank God i live in a house with the nearest house to me being a min of 30-35meters (ft ???) ..

A meter is a smig longer than a yard. 30 meters is about 100 feet.:lol:
