10" speaker suggestions

Hey guys. I wana get a 2x10 cab to go along with my 2x12 (v30 and G12H30)

The 2x12 is very punchy and bassy. Closed back

I was playing my Dark Terror thru a friends marshall 4x10 and it sounded awesome. Focused and cut very well. Not as punchy or bassy as my 2x12.

So i would love to run another 2x10 with my 2x12.

Amp is a Dark Terror. Guitar is an Ibanez semi hollow. 59/custom bridge and 59n (soon to be an A4)

I play hard rock heavy rock. Also thinking maybe a open back or partial open back cab

Going for a warm articulate overdrive sound.

Thank you!

Re: 10" speaker suggestions

Bump - I'm in the market for 10" speakers too. Been checking out Weber, looking for a replacement for my 67 Princeton Reverb, so I'd like to follow this thread.

Buddy of mine has an Ibanez semi hollow. Very overlooked guitars in my opinion. Every time he plays it I'm like WHOA. And I have a Gibson ES-335.

Re: 10" speaker suggestions

I have a couple Avatar closed back 2x10 cabs that I use primarily with my Trinity 18, which is a Marshall clone of sorts. Greenback 10s, absolutely killer sound for crunchy rock.

My Laney LC15 110 (15 watt 1x10 tube combo) uses the Celestion G10N-40, which isn't bad. A bit less smooth than the GB10s for sure, but decent enough to keep in the combo for now. You might say that it is a bit more Vintage 30ish than the GB10. I do prefer the GB10.

I recently got a pair of celstion 10" Greenbacks. They sounded great straight out of the box. Celestion call them the 10 that think they're a 12. They are less efficient (95 dB) but the upside of that is that you can run the amp a little harder, and the tone is not quite as bright as one might normally expect from a 10. Obviously they won't suit every situation, but they're well worth investigating imho.

I've only read other people's thoughts on other Avatar 10 inch speaker options. I suspect that my type of music is best served by GBs, from what I've read about the others. I'm talking strictly about 10s here...more options when it comes to 12s!

I found a lot of info on various forums by googling the various speaker types. The google search worked better than doing searches on the forums themselves, even if I was a member.

Re: 10" speaker suggestions

I like Jensen vintage alnico 10" speakers... only 25 watts each though. Have you tried greenabacks in 12" size ? I got this Traynor cab with 2 of them angled towards eachother (darkhorse DHX212 model) and with them angled it cuts harsh highs and boosts lows and is a very full but cutting cab. I would check it out if your amp is 50 watts or under

For sure. I actually want more mids and highs as my 2x12 is super bassy and punchy. I had a great experience playing my 15w head (Dark Terror). It sounded so clear thru a 4x10

Ahh I know that problem... I have SUPER boomy lows through alot of 12 inch speakers.. 10" speakers definitely have a different sound. Best part about cabs is there are so many options!

Good luck!

Re: 10" speaker suggestions

Weber - love them!

In my Bassman LTD I've got two different pairs. A pair of 10A125's (alnico) on the top and a pair of 10F150's (ceramic) on the bottom. These speakers totally compliment each other well. With the 10A125 you get that alnico compression and sweet mids, and with the 10F150 you get the punchy low end and high end clarity.

The pair works so well together that I put an additional one of each speaker in my 210 Custom Vibrolux Reverb. Both amps sound incredible.
