.12 gauge on a Floyd Rose

So I'm thinking about switching from .10 to .12, playing at Eb mostly (because I'm a SRV fan and that dude had .13 so why not mess around a bit). However my axe is a Jackson Dinky with the Floyd Rose and a thin ass neck. My question for you guys is will that **** up my guitar?

Should not.

Tweak your intonation and truss rod, as needed. Maybe have an extra trem spring or two on hand, just in case.

If you're uncomfortable performing any of the adjustments, take it to a qualified shop that you trust.

Yes of course, but what I meant was will it ruin the neck in the long run?

So you want to turn a semi-pleasant activity (playing guitar) into a workout exercise....

My first thought from the title was wondering how to get these on a Floyd

You might not want to jump straight to 12 from 10. I'd give 11s a try before that, but that's just me.

Stevie didn't usually play with a full set of 13's though. He played with a .13 for the high E, but his other plain strings were from like an .11 set usually, and his wound strings that were roughly the gauges you'd find in a 12 set. I tried to use 12's for his style a little while ago and the G gave me too much trouble. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try it though, if you want to!

Re: .12 gauge on a Floyd Rose

a warning to the OP.. I decided i would reset the guitar i have 12's on, from C standard to drop C so I could learn a few songs.. I adjust everything but the claw with 3 springs didnt have enough travel to counteract the extra tension the different tuning cause..It was close, but ill have to add an extra spring if i want the trem to be level as it has an angle to it atm.. so.. my 1 chore for today. Now, I cant imagine 12's or 13's on a Eb tuning.. I thing the tension will be too much for you to play effectively and for any length of time w/o suffering from finger fatigue IMO
