Both are 12v tubes and probably have the same pinouts, but I've never heard of anyone using the 12X7 as a sub for the AX7?

k i am confused now!!!!

my preamp apparantly uses 2 12ax7 tubes where as my power amp uses to el34s and a 12x7.

so me buying 3 12ax7 tubes will not do the job?

Re: 12ax7 the same as 12x7 tubes?

Yes, 3 12AX7's will work. That's exactly what your amp has.

Oh, crap. There's a typo on my page...:laugh2:

Be right back. Gotta fix that.

EDIT: It's fixed now. :)

BTW, that 12AX7 in the power amp is the phase inverter. Do a google search for "tube amp phase inverter" and you'll get some good stuff to read.

Basically the phase inverter is the last pre-amp, the one closest to the power tubes. Pre-amp tubes actually have is separate parts in them. The phase inverter just takes the signal after its processed by the other pre amp tubes and sends it to the power tubes.
