15 watt amps

Stratman

Guitaris Maximus
Too much for bedroom

Too little for clubs and bars.

I do like however, Fender’s Deluxe Reverb a really nice 22 watt bar room killer amp….

Sorry - I don’t have a “BLOG”…
Maybe Evans will start one...

Re: 15 watt amps

Tell jim campilongo he can't play a club or bar with a princeton reverb...

oh and you can record them

and you can practice with them

Re: 15 watt amps

I like this post. I practice with a 6 watter and even at ridiculously low levels I get complaints from both wife and daughter. So yes, you can practice with a 15 watt amp provided that you are single or have a room that isolates you from most people.

My practice is mostly with my Vox Pathfinder 15R with headphones.

BTW, I hope you were talking about tube amps, not SS amps.

Re: 15 watt amps

I practice at home with a 50w amp with no issues and I live in a block of flats.

I guess im just lucky

Re: 15 watt amps

I have a 15w amp.

I practice with it at home (apartment living).

I gig with it.

Re: 15 watt amps

Simple solution: gig with TWO.

This guy gigs with two 15 watt Pro Juniors. Sounds OK to me. :

Re: 15 watt amps

I have a couple 15W amps. The Blues Jr. never gets turned up above 3.5 on the master without getting the hairy eyeball from the rest of the band, and it sounds like crap through an attenuator. Still, it's my go-to amp because it has nice cleans and nice growl.

It seems like even a 5W tube amp is too loud for bedroom/apartment use. For a club you should be mic-ing your amp anyway, otherwise your sound guy won't have the levers to get a good balance in the room. In that case, 15W should be plenty and 100W is probably a bit too much.

Re: 15 watt amps

Played an AC15 yesterday...WANT! Thinking about selling my 40 watt Traynor now...OH, the GAS!

Re: 15 watt amps

orange tiny terror 15 watt combo = STILL WANT ;)

epiphone valve junior combo that I have = not loud enough for band, but waaay too loud for apartment

Re: 15 watt amps

My TT is pretty damn loud. I never use the 7 watt mode as the 15w mode sounds more natural to me. I love a 15 watt amp but they do lack bottom end grunt. Other than that they are certainly handy. I do wish the TT had more clean headroom, but the OD on them is terrific. I typically keep the gain very low and crank the volume and it's all good. They are also very responsive to the volume knob on the guitar, so you can get your clean that way too. I think the best part is, it's small & easily toted about.

Re: 15 watt amps

Been having a lot of fun with the Vox Night Train Trevorus sent to me in exchange for my buddy AJ's Sovtek. I have to give it to AJ Monday morning tho and I'm going to miss it. I would not be happy gigging with it, since what it seems to do best is distort :cool2: but it's been fun.

Those are just speaker cabinets...not amps, BTW. I don't own many amps any more.

Taken in my home guitar shop:

Re: 15 watt amps

I gigged in bars/pubs for a couple of years using a Marshall Studio 15. Great little amp with 6V6 output stage. Volume was never a problem but the lack of low end was an issue and I don't like too much low end.

That's what's lacking in the Night Train: clean, clear, abundant low end.

I get it when I play through a pair of Deluxe Reverbs tho.
