Would you give $150.00 for this guitar? It suppose to be a 1960's. From the outside scratches, it looks like it.

Re: 1960's Danelectro

Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure. I think I will call this dude tomorrow and go take a peek at it. :)

Re: 1960's Danelectro

I have my doubts it is a 60's guitar. I asked him if he would take the neck off and this was his reply:

No probably not since that means I will need to take all the strings off and I am only selling it for 150. It wouldnt be worth my time or money to purchase new strings and re-string it. The fact is, its a authentic Dan Electro guitar and it plays and its in great shape. I dont even believe Dan Electro sells a guitar for cheaper than $400.

I still might go see it. I really do not need a # 12 sitting in my closet.

HEY HEY WAIT A SECOND! Take a capo there and put in on the 1st fret, then take off the neck. That way the strings stay pretty locked at the headstock. Trick I learned from a luthier.

You can't buy a reissue for under $300 now. Even the ones from about 11-12 years ago.

Re: 1960's Danelectro

It's an original. The patina is something that cannot be created and sold for 150. I've seen hundreds of vintage guitars, and this one's at least 25.

But, be careful. An original 60's Dano for 150? Sounds stolen to me.

Yep, the guitar certainly does seem to show some age. If it's new, they've managed to fool me.

Possibly the seller just didn't know what he bought when he got it originally? I hate to automatically assume something's stolen right away.

Re: 1960's Danelectro

That's just the way I am, guitar comes up for super cheap, I'm skeptical. There's a Martin on my local CL right now, no discription just a number and a price. I plan on calling later today, but I have a hunch that one is hot as well.

Re: 1960's Danelectro

$150 for that?

As long as the frets are still good and it doesn't have any problems - yes - absolutely - I would.

Re: 1960's Danelectro

I dont know squat about Danos, but IMO that guitar doesnt look all that old to me. Sure, it looks a little worn, but hardly a sure thing from the 60's.

Nevertheless, I am with these guys.... GET IT!

Re: 1960's Danelectro

A new Dano will retail for close to 400.

We are talking Dano, if you like their sound you can't go wrong with 150. If there is something wrong with it either don't buy it or use what you would pay for a new one to make it into something even better in the long run.

I'm guessing you like them, otherwise we wouldn't be having this thread. For that price I would without hesitation (assuming it is in decent condition) regardless of it's age. If it's a total lemon... then I'd reconsider, of course.

dat is troo in most cases, but there was one on eBay that just sold. Check it out! http://cgi.ebay.com/Danelectro-U2-Surfarama-Aqua-Mint-Color-Sweet-Tone_W0QQitemZ370249888894QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item56349cf47e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Is that called a "U2"?
Yes! :)

I agree...it looks like someone reliced it. It should have some dings on the headstock area. I observed a few pictures of true 1960's Dano's and they both had nicks on the headstock area.

My 87 Oldsmobile just took a poop today and my daughter needs it to try to find work. There goes my guitar money. :(
