i gathered this from the Chrisguitars site
not sure if its right .. check this
"1994 40th Anniversary Fender American Standard Stratocaster, (pic2), (pic3). Everybody needs one of these in their Strat collection. Not really rare, other than they were only made for one year, and specs are all American Standard, with the exception of a commemorative neckplate which proclaims the year, model, and phrase, "40 years...and still rockin'", as well as a red/white/blue badge on the headstock, both shown here. Overall excellent condition. We've buffed out the body to a high gloss, removing any pick scratches and fine buckle/button scratches; frets show only minor wear on the lower few frets. Not dead mint but what I'd call very nice for a lightly used guitar. Even though Fender made many 1000's of this model, virtually every American Standard during 1994, they certainly have investment potential over and above a comparable '93 or '95 with the same features. The good news is that at 13 years, they're still a good buy, selling just slightly higher than other Strats from this era and not priced so high that you're afraid to take it out on a gig. $799 for this one and includes similarly nice original "red badge" Fender case and trem bar. Alder body, swimming pool route under the pickguard. The neck is nice and comfortable, thicker than Jackson's and Ibby's for sure, think medium "C". You shouldn't have any problem liking that neck.

Looks like you snagged yourself a Plus model since it has the locking tuners, LSR roller nut, Lace Sensor pickups and the bridge is also the Fender Floyd Rose non-locking bridge. Very cool bridge too. The cases on the Plus models had those bigger latches as well.

Sweet guitars. The Plus models are really nice. I wish I was able to get one of those at the time but I ended up with a regular Standard instead. I love it and still play it today. Loaded with Texas Specials now.

Nice axe. ;)

Mine was the yellow/tortose combo, but the body was dead so I changed it out for another Plus body. I didn't like the Sensors, I like the current SSL1/SSL1/Stelly a lot better. Neck is a modern C, very comfy, I like it a lot.

My 40th Ann. has been my #1 for over almost 10 years. I love the neck on and havent found another quite like it. I'd like o have a maple board like that too. Whats in the bridge now?

Re: 1994 40th Anniversary Fender American Standard Stratocaster

there is a slim chance it could have a poplar body but most likely Alder... In the 90's Fender would switch body woods when supply of alder ran thin, so i have heard...

should be a really nice player.... i like those Lace Sensors... interesting PU's...

Re: 1994 40th Anniversary Fender American Standard Stratocaster

Those pics confirm it. What you have is a Standard model, not a Plus. Same body wood though and route under the guard as I mentioned before.

Enjoy it, when it arrives. ;)

Re: 1994 40th Anniversary Fender American Standard Stratocaster

Yeah, I'm not sure why the pics of the Plus came into play:)

+1. For a while they even used Poplar bodies with Alder veneers.

Not a bad thing, alder and poplar are very close in tone and characteristics. In the early 90's there seems to be an overall shortage of Alder since almost every manufacturer switched to Poplar for a while, then went back to Alder in the late 90's. Both Alder and Poplar are inexpensive woods, originally used for making cabinets. Poplar just doesn't look good with a transparent finish as it tends to be green- not a problem if it's painted

Quote from Mr. George Blanda a little more than half way down.

George Blanda: “All the Strat bodies were alder up until about 1990. When it got so hard to get alder, we were faced with either using poplar or not making guitars. There’s a misconception that poplar is not a good tone wood. Actually, it’s fine. James Burton actually specified it for his signature Tele in the late ’80s, after trying a lot of different bodies. We never regarded poplar as a second-rate wood, but a lot of people preferred alder so when the restrictions eased, we were able to go back to alder in ’93 or ’94.”
