HI GUys
hows it going?!?!
Q: )
i just lost an ebay auction, got pissed off and decided to buy a separte neck from ebay and build (with parts) a custom project guitar to celebrate my 10th guitar.(i hope the last ahahah )

SO, ill need some help regarding those technical specs and compatibillity between the parts. mainly the neck matching the body and the floyd rose matching both.

I Have a complete JACKSON DXMG guitar. I love the neck. its ****ing perfect, bolder than the one in my charvel fusion deluxe.
but the bodys cutaway that gives access to the higher frets isnt big enough for my hands. so , thats the first MOD.
THe second body mod will be a one piece Indian rosewood or mahogany body.
and thre third and last mode will be a different floyd rose. ill go either schaller or original floyd rose. and in a last case, a gotoh floyd rose.

what are your recomendations guys? in which aspects do i need to pay more attention?
im inclined to believe that i need to pay more attention to the neck specs in order to build or buy a body that will fit. and plus, buy a bridge that will fit both specs . the bridge and the neck specs.

it says that the Jackson dxmg neck has a compound radius of 12-16 . so, any traditional floyd rose will fit? the original one and the floyd rose?

Thank you very much in advance
ill be waiting for your repley
Thanks
JP

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

Just a thought, are you trying to recreate the same guitar tone wide with just better access to the upper frets or do you love the neck and just want to build a different guitar around that neck?

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

im trying to recreate the same guitar, with better access to upper frets AND a different sound. cause the basswood/alder body is too bright for my tastes. i love mahogany

Well, for upper frets access I would say you definitely need a contoured heel for the traditional strat design.

If you are up to a non strat body--then I would suggest something like a Flying V shape or (one of my persona favorite for playing-very comfortable and great upper fret access) an Iceman shape.

For wood choice I would recommend Mahogany--unless you get a bum piece it should be warmer and darker than the Alder and Basswood. I've worked with all 3 and found the Mahogany to consistently have darker tones and better sustain.

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

Doing a cutaway around the back of the neck pocket like your fusion is would be easy.

You could do it with a orbital sander or you could make a tempalte and do it with a router and template bearing bit.

If you just wanted the exact same guitar and tone with only better access then what Kramersteen said...he's made some awesome guitars so he would definitely know!

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

Don't worry about making the bridge saddle radius match the fretboard radius exactly. If you get an OFR, make sure you take the shim out from under the middle four saddles. And try to get a Floyd nut that matches the radius up there, if you're changing it out. (They make a lot of sizes apart from the handful you see all the time.)

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

I'm not sure what Floyd the DXMG has, but Jackson has put out some guitars with Jackson branded Floyds that have the studs in a slightly different location. On those guitars an OFR runs into problems. Just something to keep in mind if you decide to reuse the Floyd that came in your DXMG in the new body.

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

Thanks for the input guys
ill buy a body and ask a luthier to do the services for me. he will just copy the dxmg body, but he will add the contoured heel on the back of the headstock as you guys suggested and will make the lower horn larger so my hand will fit there without problems.
Cause in my Charvel fusion deluxe, its TOO SMALL. TOO S M A L L
The guitar will come with the matching nut. the jackson that i own, has a funny jackson floyd bridge. i dont like it. it stays in tune more or less.
heres a pic of it.

O yeah...you just give me another reason to buy another guitar, which is going to be coincidentally, the 10th guitar also.

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

Why not get an Ibanez body with AANJ (all access neck joint), and an Ibanez Edge bridge (more superior than the OFR).

I think this method doesn't really help cause the heel is still a big-ass square block. Ibanez AANJ neck joint rulez!

Have you tried a fusion or any other charvel with a heel like that? The access is pretty damn good you would be surprised.

The ibby ones are nice though.

Hey thanks man, i do try to make things a bit different. Every dog and his man has done a stain.

To my hands even standard Fender heel is okay cause I have large palms. The Les Paul is the only one I can't get around.

Yes I have one with a cut-away heel and truly, the AANJ beats everything to the ground. Ibanez as always, is one step ahead of the competition.

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

I would say inhale medium sized hands--so don't know how relevant this is to you, but the angled/contoured heel on my LTD Strat (with Floyd Rose) feels perfect for me...perhaps try and play several contoured heels/routs and see which one you like best?

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

Yeah guys... thank you for all feedback. i said contoured heel in the BACK OF THE HEADSTOCK. my mistake. ahahahahahah its in the back of the body. ahahahahahahahha
the ibanez rg access to the lower horns are simple amazing. i have lots of ibanezes, and they are almost all super confort to play leads on the first registers
my fender is a bi tight for me to play around there. my charvel is almost a NO NO . all other guitars are ok.
do you guys know wher can i buy an original floyd rose or a schaller floyd rose at the best price? NEW.

Re: 1st guitar project jackson dxmg neck and custom body.

i saw that WARMOTH sell them in a pretty reasonable price. but i dont know any other places .

Well, it all depends...sometimes companies have clearance prices and you can get a new one cheaper on Amazon or eBay.

If it's being shipped to Brazil then shipping and handling would be something to consider--may make the cheaper one more expensive...
