2 Heads, one cab, one FX loop...good setup?

Hey d00dz...

I'm trying to come up with a good scheme for 2 heads with one cab and my existing pedalboard. I use some of my effects in the loop. I can already imagine the extra cabling required to switch my whole effect loop from amp to amp. Is there a amp switcher that can switch my loop for me at the same time? Is there an easy way to do this? Is this a terrible idea?!?!?

Thanks!

Mike

Radial has an amp switch and a loop switch, but I'd really want to switch it all in one stomp...is there a better way to marry two heads together?

Not that I know of. While there are two stomp boxes per se in the setup, the loop is a master control for the amp switch as well. You can set the clean boost on the loop pedal for no gain and set the remote switching so it controls the head swap pedal instead. You can set it to work on the activation of one of the two loops also if you choose. Very flexible, but not very cheap. When you get right down to it, it's economical when compared to getting another cabinet and also lugging the extra cabinet around...

Hmm...so a loop bone and a headbone hooked together looks like I could have my effects in the loop and have it switch the heads too...a lot of dough, a lot of cables, and a lot of setup and tear down time...hmm...It'd probably be easier just to double up on the effects I use the loop (delay mainly) and have them set for each head and just switch between the heads...why can't I just have it all! Every tone I want in a simple, compact package! :D

this is all you need:

http://www.tonebone.com/tb-headbone-vt.htm

you can find em used on ebay for $150

just plug your amps in and away you go!

one stomp on the pedal and switch amp heads

man I wish I had the $ to do that (no modelers, I would just get the mesa single recto and a fender head and switcharoo):

Re: 2 Heads, one cab, one FX loop...good setup?

even has a "remote switch" so no wires, just a tiny remote control!!!

man they thought of everything

Re: 2 Heads, one cab, one FX loop...good setup?

the effects loop would be on for one amp

and off for the other

you could manipulate the "on" loop for one amp for whatever song prior to the song...and it would still be one click

also you could plug the effects "in front" of the tonebone

man do I need one of those (thank me later)

Re: 2 Heads, one cab, one FX loop...good setup?

Thanks, HD...I still wouldn't be able to shift the FX loop back and forth. I'd have to do that with the Loopbone. The Headbone doesn't have a loop built in, unfortunately...I think I'm looking at a $400 solution from Radial...

Re: 2 Heads, one cab, one FX loop...good setup?

Alright, I'm still working on this...the tonebone solution is SOOOO expensive since I need two different products...what if I didn't use a head switcher and instead ran the rig in stereo? I'd want to be able to switch between the preamps of either head and be able to have time based effects in the FX loop of whichever amp I had selected. Both power sections would run all the time. I'd just need something that can switch 2 or 3 loops in one stomp. Is this possible/available?

Re: 2 Heads, one cab, one FX loop...good setup?

How about using an A/B/Y pedal to switch out the effects as needed and also use a seperate $19 stomp pedal as a remote for the tonebone. That gets you off the hook at $169 or so plus the cost of an A/B/Y for your effects loops etc if you go through ebay. The ordinary switch should work ok for the slingshot function. Frankly, it's a neat design. Keep the Headbone as close to the amps as possible and use very short cables of very high quality. Seems unnecessary, but it's very necessary with the headbone. It's a sensitive peice of gear in reference to cable quality.

Couldn't you use your rack FX on both amps at once, since those units are stereo? It'd be the left side on one head, with the right side on the other head. As long as you don't experience some weird noise gremlin, from having heads connected to each other while being disconnected by the Loopbone.
That's the only possible problem.
