2 Hum , 3 Way Switch help.

Hey guys,

I need to wire 2 humbuckers with a 3 way selector switch( Fender style- not 3 way toggle) but i need the middle position (2nd one) to be only one coil from each pickup, it that possible by soldering the red and white of both pickups to the middle position on the selector switch?

Please provide me diagrams if this is possible.

That sounds like a hard one, but the way I think it might work is looking at the strat diagrams on this site which feature autosplit for humbuckers in the 2/4 positions. You'll have to solder both sets of red/white to the same lug I believe.

Hopefully someone who's really good at these things can post here too.

Thank you for your reply bro, I have tried those diagrams, but, I want that thing in a 3 way selector switch, and the middle position to be one coil from each pickup, Thank you again , hope someone will give me the right diagram.

Search this forum for ArtieToo's virtual hum bucker. It does exactly what you want and is noise canceling to boot. I've used it myself with really good results.

This will give you one coil from each in parallel in the middle position. Note that the color codes are DiMarzio.

Thanks Bro, I ll give diagram a try, I will switch the color codes to match the SD one.Black is hot . Red and white for coil tapping.

There you have it, I was wrong. I didn't realize the three way lever had that many lug combinations. Interesting indeed....

OOOOOH, I just re-read the original questions, I was thinking that you wanted to be able to select both humbuckers on at the same time as well, which would make little or no sense with a three way switch and I guess I should pay closer attention to the original question.

You just want, in a way, three separate humbucker combinations, bridge, neck and one coil each from both humbuckers. Interesting combination.

Yes Exactly , that's what i am looking for, first position full hum, 2nd one coil from each hum( It will give me the best clean sound) 3rd is full neck hum.

why dont you install coil taps as push/pulls on your volume/tone controls so you can have a heap of sounds at your disposal?
