20 pound (+/-) tube combos that are giggable

Re: 20 pound (+/-) tube combos that are giggable

Really, you could put a neodymium speaker in most combos and drop a lot of weight - doesn't necessarily have to be this VTX Pro.

I like Valvetronix amps, and this amp was designed for exactly this purpose (light, portable, loud, versatile do-it-all gigger), but a neo speaker in anything will save weight

I'm about to get a twin reverb with some neo speakers and run around with it. :approve:

See, I am going in the other direction. I have this irrational notion to replace the stock speakers in my 90 pound twin with a set of EV12ls. That will kick up the total weight to about 115 pounds. :eyecrazy:

Re: 20 pound (+/-) tube combos that are giggable

This thread will only have a solution if the gig in question has a PA for the Guitar amp. Otherwise it has no answer. Transformers and speakers alone will kick you over 10kg

very cool insights, I definitely did not know about any of these things; sure glad I did not get the fender pro junior with no master volume that I really do need with my music, as I see these other great options yall tone experts helped me out with; I see that vox is all inclusive with pedals built into the amp, cool :beerchug:

Re: 20 pound (+/-) tube combos that are giggable

I've now seen used Pro Juniors for as little as $225 on Craigslist. I'm sure you could find one or two in your area too.

Buy two and a really good, transparent sounding overdrive pedal.

Maybe a JHS clone of the Klon Centaur, or wait for Bill Finnegan to get around to releasing his own affordable version of his Klon Centaur. (If you can wait that long. :scratchch )

Yep and that is the best solution.
For small and gigable low wattage combo with TONE nothing on the planet at any price beats a Zinky Blue Velvet!
I have owned quite a number of high end amps that are around the the same size and weight as the Zinky but none that blew me away with tone like this thing does!
KILLER tones at a whisper level and enough power to play unmiced in a large room with a full band!
Here are a couple clips both running my 25 watt Velvet unmiced.

Egnater Tweaker 15, light, flexable. Also for a little more money if you're looking for a more American tone (The Tweaker will do that too) the Soldano Atomic 16 is totally light and giggable. No sure what's up with it but the 2x12 Combo I had was liter than most heads i've owned.

Re: 20 pound (+/-) tube combos that are giggable

cool man, both the soldano and egnator you mentioned are 35 and 38 pounds

I narrowed down my selection to getting a neodymium speaker, AND the laney cub which is super light and super cheap, or the orange tiny terror combo

...just gotta save up ;) I just bought two 410 GK ultralight cabs since I have had more fun playing bass than guitar so far, and,

wanna get an orange 212PPC and a bunch of neodymium speakers, so choices choices and the GAS marches on
