2009 lp traditional plus, what’s the scoop?

I know little to nothing about the specifics on this thing. Anyone got specs or info or anything? Kinda want a les paul and saw one of these that will be coming up for sale. Tell me what ya know! Or tell me how terrible they are and save me $2k

Traditional means it’s a solid, non weight relieved body. Bad news is it can be heavy. Plus means it’s got a flame maple top, usually 2a or 3a.

Good guitars but for 2 grand there’s a lot of Les Pauls out there for that price

im sure i can get it for less than that, i think its about 9 lbs. nice top. solid, not chambered is good. wasnt sure if overall people have a good impression of these or not. this seems like a decent guitar, but i wasnt into gibsons for a while so didnt pay attention to what was good and what was just ok

I think gibson really confused the market by expanding with so many dif names. I mean, theres traditional then theres the classic then theres the old standards that are classic like the traditionals and the new standards that are more modern.

I’m confused.

Used LPs pop around here for way south of that pretty frequently. Lots of Standards of various eras, Classics sometimes, too. A guy I know got an R8 for two grand. Seems like he lucked out a bit, but I mentioned maybe looking at Studios or Tributes, he said skip those and wait until I had $1500 to spend, and get my choice of real ones.

Then again, maybe people around Dayton are just dumb and sell Gibsons too cheap.

Re: 2009 lp traditional plus, what’s the scoop?

Based on what i’ve read of the specs, if i were buying one today, i’d prob go with traditional, if you don’t mind the weight. The fact they’re spec’d more similarly to the most desirable vintage ones (at least to my understanding - i could be wrong) makes them more valued to me than some other more recent ones where changes in design were likely initiated because of cost cutting.

I have not tried one, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I do know i’d take my late 90s standard over a 2018 standard model any day of the week, based on things i’ve read

My Traditional Ice Tea Burst is my No. 1. The thicker neck gives tons of sustain and plays very fast despite its girth. The only thing I needed to do was swap the pickups. It came with 57's and didn't have the growl I wanted for playing heavier stuff. I threw in a set of WLHs, and the guitar is now a beast. This is also the guitar I fell off the cliff in the woods with. Me landing 15-feet onto for the guitar in the gig bag and all that was needed was a string change on the high-e and a new selector switch plastic tip. They are very nicely put together guitars, solidly built. They have traditional wiring, not a circuit board.

Coming in here to chime in: I proudly own two Traditional Les Pauls (my only LPs) and selected them because of their vintage configuration. My two guitars at '14 and '18 productions, but I think if you are getting similar spec guitars, then go for it.

The only thing to be weary of is the non-relieved weight. It doesn't bother me so much until I've been playing for 3 hours with my band or something. They have balls-to-the-wall tone. One of my guitars has SD Pearly Gates in it and that is a smokin hot instrument. Other one has stock Burstbuckers and they also sound pretty good. Maybe one day when I can afford it, I'll replace those pickups with Seth Lovers or Antiquities but the stock stuff is definitely usable.

As with any Les Paul - probably a solid guitar.

Pups could be hit or miss depending on your taste.

As always, buy it, play it, and decide for yourself.

However, Trad+ means nothing goofy and pretty top...If it goes south of $2k probably a good deal.

I was thinking along the same lines when I bought my LP Standard Plus in 2001. Changing the pickups made a huge difference, but swapping the bridge for an ABR-1 brought it much closer to a historic in terms of tone. I used a set of these to install the new bridge.

I put a set of antiquities in my 90s lp standard. Honestly, can’t tell the dif.

If you score the traditional for under 2k, it's a good deal. You can find R7s for $2500 every now and then. If you're patient and hunt closely, you can find deals were R8s and R7s are at $2k

I score my R7 burst for $2500, no idea how I got that lucky.

I liked my Traditional Pros, they were plain tops with splits and BB3/57 Pickups. I want to say the Regular traditional model was a 2A flame and the plus was a 3A flame top and 57 pros. Traditional model is essentially what the Standard used to be before Henry started adding features that nobody was really asking for.

Re: 2009 lp traditional plus, what’s the scoop?

2009 for the trad is the 9-hole swiss cheese relief.......short tenon, 50's neck profile, rosewood board, slightly more flamed top, probably the 57 classic pickups.

A basic no-nonsense LP styled after the 50's Les Paul sunburst.

Re: 2009 lp traditional plus, what’s the scoop?

Re: 2009 lp traditional plus, what’s the scoop?

i figured out it was swiss cheese with a little research, seems like it went solid in 2013. this one doesnt seem to have a 50's neck though, seems 60's. rw board with a nice top. abr bridge which doesnt seem right. 2009 date on the back of the headstock and traditional trussrod cover.

here's a pic of the body. im going to check it out again today, for that price i dont know if i care what it is but im curious what it is
