2011 Les Paul Studio

I’m kicking around trading my Strat for a Les Paul Studio. Strat is an ‘87 USA Standard, the Gibson is whichever Studio has a gloss finish, wine red w/ gold hardware.

Is this era of Studios well regarded?

Don't know about how the rest of the world feels, but the 2011 LP Tribute (which shares its construction with the Studio, though not it's pickups) is the best guitar I've ever owned. Not the most expensive, but the best.

Re: 2011 Les Paul Studio

How thick is the neck from that period? I'm probably gonna go try out the Gibson, but I'd like to know what I'm in for.

Re: 2011 Les Paul Studio

oh hell. I have no idea. As always - every LP is different. If you can't play it be prepared to flip it, trade it, upgrade it, or keep it forever.

Re: 2011 Les Paul Studio

I'm gonna play it first. Just wondering if it's more of a 50s or 60s neck shape.

I'm really not looking to get rid of the Fender, I've just never owned a real Les Paul. Seems like something I might wanna do.

Re: 2011 Les Paul Studio

I will say that the late 80s was a good time for Strats, too...

Re: 2011 Les Paul Studio

They varied by model and I can't remember what the Studio had. I think a 50s profile? Not my personal favorite, but then, I've typically found that my favorite neck profile is whatever I've most recently gotten used to. And that I can quickly get used to pretty much anything.

If there’s any way to get it without trading the Strat, do that.

Re: 2011 Les Paul Studio

Les Paul guy decided the buckle rash on my Strat was more than he could handle. Kinda glad he felt that way.

Re: 2011 Les Paul Studio

No big loss. LP Studios aren't particularly thin on the ground.

Right. Maybe I’ll take my own advice and start putting back money until a stupid deal falls in my lap.

Not to mention, do I really wanna deal with somebody who’s concerned about buckle rash on a 30 year old Strat? :)
