is it me or does it seem wrong that the new 2012 American Standard Tele model Fender has issued has a Tummy Cut... it looks ugly...

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

It seems odd to me to have a tummy cut on the standard tele, but I think with all diffrent tele models Fender has having a few with a tummy cut is a good idea.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

**** no!

you have no idea how much of an improvement that is on those guitars!

ive had to gig with teles and I'll tell you, at the height I played them (kind of high) my ribs suffered.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

I think the no-tummy-cut on the Teles is a part of the charm... No thanks.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

Tummy cuts actually kinda bug me. I wouldn't want one on my Tele. And that's not any kind of 'That's not how they were made 50 years ago' sentiment coming through. I just don't like them.

Having said that, I think it is an improvement in the design that will probably meet with approval from the majority of practical guitar players who aren't hung up on tradition. Also, like Woodcutter said, it's cool that they're offering it in some models.

But then, the chances of me buying a new American Tele any time soon are pretty damn slim, so f*ck me and my worthless opinion.

Step in the right direction.

Imagine you're building a custom guitar, just for you, that NOONE ELSE WILL OR CAN EVER SEE. does it have a tummy cut?

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

Tele's to me are sopposed to be a slab of wood in my mind... i'm not a vintage purist at all... i prefer a mix of vintage design with modern electronics and hardware... which is why i liked the older American Standard teles..

i like that slab of wood feeling of a tele so much i got a quote from Warmoth to build me a strat body with no tummy or forearm cut's... (simular idea of the Music Man Steve Morse model)... strat look with more of a tele feel... but i scraped that project and moved on to something different

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

oddly i didn't mind the tummy cut as much on the American Deluxe models as it looked nice with the top binding.... but it still bugged me...

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

The thing about the American Standard is that it's supposed to be a modern instrument to meet the needs of modern players. Yes, it was designed more than 60 years ago, and if you want one that is a recreation of that old design, Fender offers that. But since when is the American Standard vintage correct? If I cared, I'd be more pissed that they're using Strat saddles on the tele than the tummy cut.

+1 Agree completely.

Then quit nipple riding! What is this, the 80's?

I see where you're going with that, but why are they now putting vintage voiced pickups in them? The new AS Tele has a Broadcaster pickup - that's basically 1950 spec.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

I don't think they look that good but I bet a Tele with tummy & forearm cut like a Strat would be comfortable, wouldn't look right though. I don't see the point in killing yourself just to look cool, if it's uncomfortable don't play it (or mod it so it works for you).

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

I love the tummy cut! I would also love a contour on the top to make it more comfortable.
I avoided Teles for years because I always found flat tops uncomfortable till Fender added the tummy cut. I have been so thrilled with the new tummy cut, that I ordered a new 2012 American Standard Tele in three color burst and I can't wait! I only wish it had a contoured top like a strat.

Thanks Fender for finally improving the Standard Tele!!!!! :)

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

Gut cut FTW. It's about damn time they offered them on the modern Teles. Like it was said, modern intruments for the modern player. They offer a load of vintage spec Teles just like vintage guys like them.

I find the slab Tele completely comfortable. I actually prefer it over a Strat. You don't nipple ride a Tele. Sling it low around the waist and it's plenty comfortable. I don't see anyone whining about the lack of contours on a Les Paul.

Les paul has an arch top

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

The tummy cut doesn't bother me as much as the Strat bridge saddles. The vintage Tele bridge is important for the tone, and I'd like to see Fender produce them with 3 compensated saddles...

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

I don't mind, it works because the Am. Std. is like the Am. Deluxe... they're instruments for the average player.

Since they still make SEVERAL tele models for the traditional tele enthusiast, I say "do whatever you want to the am std."

I got my hwy1 anyways... I've got enough tele to last me until fender cancels this tummy cut idea :)

yup. and at least if you had to do 6 saddles... do the thick-ass block saddles. May not be vintage correct but the look and feel are better.
