2019 Gibson Lineup

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

Modern neck profile, hardware, and pickup options ON LOW-MIDLEVEL MODELS.

Blonde maple gloss fretboards as options instead of suspect substitutes

I mean really how hard could it be to sell a few floyded blacked out explorers with active pups and maple boards??

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

would like to see Gibson go back in time...pick, say, two models from the 60s, 70s, 80 and 90s....the best of the best for each decade...make that there model line up...put 110% into recreating those iconic guitars...

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

I think this is a step in the right direction. The HP stuff is there for Henry's ego, but everything else is scaled back dramatically . Sure, a few bucks less here and there would be nice, but compared to the last total overhaul of the lines, this is dramatically closer to what everyone said that they wanted.

Oh, and if that 235 looks fantastic.

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

I love the ES235. Not innovative, and not in an interesting color, but it is a guitar that should be in the lineup.

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

The Junior could've been so great.....but that pickguard? Yikes......reminds me of the S-1/Marauder.

The price is realistic though, for once.

I really want this:

I dig that Tribute DC with the single pickup.

Can someone tell me how the LP Studio ($1699) is valued $500 more than the LP Studio Tribute ($1199)? What are the $500 worth of savings/extras there..? Is it just the hard shell case?

Bound neck (which is unnecessary IMHO) and is the top actually carved on the tribute or flat? Can’t really tell from the pic.

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

I'd like a floyded Studio with no bindings at all. Glossy Jet Black with all gold hardware. (including gold tuners)

And also stainless frets while we're at it!

The Explorer Tribute comes with a gig bag at $1,399. Good call on the Dirty Fingers, though.

Mainly bound neck, finish (finish is probably the biggest cost saver) and hard case. The Tribute tops are carved but not to the degree of the higher priced LP's.

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

That pickguard on the Junior looks like it came off a Deluxe Telecaster.... NO, on the pickguard shape. YES, on the Junior with a single P-90.

They just routed the top so they could install the pots and jack on the pickguard. Wonder how much money that saves them. It also has a maple neck. Juniors are slab tops with no binding. I always say they are one of the most overpriced guitars that Gibson builds. One pickup, two pots, no switch, a simple wrap bridge/tailpiece, slab body and they usually price them really close to a Studio. Seems like they should be able to consistently sell the Juniors (standard Juniors, not "Tribute" Juniors) for under 1K.

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

I see that the Modern Double Cut models are gone. That’s a bummer... I kinda liked that one!

A studio was, originally at least, a solid but less visually embellished model. A workhorse where compromises were limited to bling.

The Tribute line, otoh, was always about cutting corners to cut costs

NOT sure how faithful theyve been to that initial philosophy, though

ESP makes those... Like most Gibson-shaped products that actually sell well and are attuned to popular demand

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

Ugh, i’d totally consider ordering one of those juniors if i didn’t just get a new axe

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

I’d try a Les Paul Classic, but I can’t tell from the photos if they have binding nibs. Binding nibs are a “No”.

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

The prices are looking better than the past few years. Is someone finally listening? If the QC is improved as well, this could prove to be a critical year for the company. There are quite a few items i like here, and prices that give potential for me to pull the trigger and not just window shop. Kudos.

Second look:

There are still a number of highly priced gear. Will be interested to see if there is a cost/quality ratio once reviews start coming in.

Re: 2019 Gibson Lineup

Truth: They don't do ANYTHING best. They are not even a consistent #3 across the board. Wait - OVER-PRICE guitars; That is their core competency!

Every guitar, changed or not is 50 to 100 dollars above last year.

Also, to be fair, remember that those are "Retail Prices". Most guitars sell for 60% of that across the board pretty standard. So a $1700 Studio is really gonna go for $1020 or so, call it 11-12 hundred out the door. Which is still too damn much for such a blah guitar compared to any/everyone else.

$1000 can get me a killer Duncan/EMG loaded ESP/LTD with amazing tops and bling.
