the thing with their quick connectors is that the only pickups you could use with it were Gibson pickups. if there was a system that would allow you to plug other pups into, THAT would be cool..

It seems to me that there was a guitar that had sliding pickups, but I cant recall the brand name. But it seems it was one with the clear acrylic body.

I remember there was a Dan Armstrong (Ampeg) clear acrylic guitar.
There was also another one that had some popularity but I can’t remember the name.

Perhaps I live under a rock, but it seems surprising to me that the SG is Gibson's best seller. It seems to me that
I see far more guys playing and/or talking about buying Les Pauls..

I see way more LPs than SGs, as well. I don't know if I'd trust what GC says their top seller is.

That SG thing is odd, at least going off secondary market availability... are they much more likely keepers or something?

Or are they counting Epiphone sales?

my guess is they are doing it by flavor....SG Standard is pretty solid one flavor vs several flavors of Les Paul...if they counted all Les Paul vs SG Les Paul would probably be on top...

It's trading off weight for a fragile neck joint. Both are clearly flawed designs by modern standards and both are equally classic.

Anyway I think the GC list is most popular in terms of recognizably, not actual current sales volume.

Remember - they stopped making Les Pauls for quite a while. And the SG has some pretty impressive Icons as well...Angus, Iommi, etc.

Plus, the flat out lower price. No surprise.

If I search "Gibson Les Paul" on eBay (filling in the brand in the search filter to weed out the other brands), I get 8941 listings.

If I do the same search for "Gibson SG", I get 1973 listings.

Granted, that's not including all the vintage listings, which are mostly in a separate category, but that's a pretty huge difference.

The SG is certainly iconic, but Les Pauls are freaking everywhere all the time.

Gibson fixed the neck joint when they changed to the 'batwing' body / pickguard in 1966, though some players still prefer the '61-style. I've played both and honestly prefer the batwing.
