2019 Gibson SG

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

I'm a bit surprised that people aren't piling on this. It is pretty much the same guitar as the The Paul, save some cosmetic differences, but 100$ more expensive. I rather like it, though, even though it is not for me.

But this IS an SG not a stripped down version of an SG.

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

The moment you start correcting grammar your opinion becomes invalid.

Incorrect. Proper grammar and spelling ARE proper communication. PERIOD. The whole point of communication is perfect understanding, and misspelled words and poor grammar do NOT do that.

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

So you should like it better. That extra $100 pays for the leather soft shell case that comes with the guitar.

I'm not a big SG fan. But that wasn't the point, was it? It clearly wasn't my point.
If what you really want is a debate about the relative value of the different Gibson models, you may first wish to search my posts for my opinions on the value of LP Juniors.

Or we can save all that crap for another thread ... as politely requested by Jeff H in his original post.

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

You’re right Jeff, that IS a great-looking SG. I’d be quite proud to have one in my collection.

I actually don’t own (and have never owned) an SG, but I’d like to. I was never really a fan of the body shape, but its grown on me over the last few years.

But picking apart people's grammar instead of furthering a conversation tends to imply you don't have much of a leg to stand on. An example would be if instead of replying to this comment with something about grammar being essential to effective communication, you chose to write a lengthy dissertation about how conjunctions do not belong at the beginning of sentences.

I'm just trying to say that I think it's better value for the money than a The Paul, my comment spring boarded off of yours, but it was not directed to debate it.

Maybe it would have been better if I had started with "Than it would be of better value" instead.

I don’t need a leg to stand on regarding your personal dislike of ‘coffee table’ guitars. My point was your opinion is not only irrelevant to the current topic, but that it’s a tired old joke and, at best, chuckle-worthy ONLY on first use.

Oh yeah? Well my coffee table has 6 (!) legs to stand on.

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

At one point I had three Gibsons, all with face-mounted jacks (an SG, a 335, and a Marauder). I don't like the way it looks as much but I prefer it when playing. They are the reason god gave us 90 degree plugs.

Love the small tortoise guard on that one. If that model comes in black I am in love.

I am not one for face-mounted jack. It takes away from the lines of the guitar. I don't like edge ones either, as it makes it hard to sit in certain chairs. I don't like having right angle cables, either. Blah!
My Steinberger and my Brian Moore have the jacks on the back, in a very unobtrusive place, and it keeps the look of the guitar as well as the fact it doesn't interfere with the look of the guitar. I think some Charvel models are putting the jack on the back these days.

Maybe you should write a lengthy email to Apple and tell them that their autocorrect feature doesn’t correct to proper English.

I have neither the time nor desire to correct the autocorrect feature.

Please get off of YOU’RE soapbox. Nobody likes a better than thou know it all.

Please get off the coffee table guitar soapbox, or at least stand on Christopher’s coffee table. It’s got 6(!) legs.

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

My Firebrand does not like to be called coffee table :)
But I won't argue more on the subject.

What is it that makes you prefer face mount while playing?

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

I have to admit that I’m not understanding the whole “coffee table” thing going on here. It sounds as if you’re calling a stained & finished (as opposed to painted) guitar a coffee table... which, of course, would be ridiculously narrow-minded. Let’s face it... aesthetically, painted guitars are (generally) kinda boring compared to something that shows the grain. So, I’m thinking that there’s some kind of joke that’s going over my head. Since I’m obviously not getting the joke, could someone please explain it to me?

Re: 2019 Gibson SG

I like the smaller pickguard as well. I've been eyeing the '62 reissue with the small black guard for some time. I am partial to the Cherry color too, since it's traditional, but this one is expanding my horizons.

Chistopher, you're more than welcome to comment. I'm simply attempting to keep the vitriolic discourse at bay.

While not digging the tort guard, id not soon turn away that beauty, and proceed to amp up my Angus and Malcom chops..
