I'm a bit surprised that people aren't piling on this. It is pretty much the same guitar as the The Paul, save some cosmetic differences, but 100$ more expensive. I rather like it, though, even though it is not for me.
But this IS an SG not a stripped down version of an SG.

So you should like it better. That extra $100 pays for the leather soft shell case that comes with the guitar.
Incorrect. Proper grammar and spelling ARE proper communication. PERIOD. The whole point of communication is perfect understanding, and misspelled words and poor grammar do NOT do that.
I'm not a big SG fan. But that wasn't the point, was it? It clearly wasn't my point.
If what you really want is a debate about the relative value of the different Gibson models, you may first wish to search my posts for my opinions on the value of LP Juniors.
Or we can save all that crap for another thread ... as politely requested by Jeff H in his original post.
But picking apart people's grammar instead of furthering a conversation tends to imply you don't have much of a leg to stand on. An example would be if instead of replying to this comment with something about grammar being essential to effective communication, you chose to write a lengthy dissertation about how conjunctions do not belong at the beginning of sentences.
I don’t need a leg to stand on regarding your personal dislike of ‘coffee table’ guitars. My point was your opinion is not only irrelevant to the current topic, but that it’s a tired old joke and, at best, chuckle-worthy ONLY on first use.
At one point I had three Gibsons, all with face-mounted jacks (an SG, a 335, and a Marauder). I don't like the way it looks as much but I prefer it when playing. They are the reason god gave us 90 degree plugs.
Love the small tortoise guard on that one. If that model comes in black I am in love.

Oh yeah? Well my coffee table has 6 (!) legs to stand on.
Maybe you should write a lengthy email to Apple and tell them that their autocorrect feature doesn’t correct to proper English.
I have neither the time nor desire to correct the autocorrect feature.
Please get off of YOU’RE soapbox. Nobody likes a better than thou know it all.

I like the smaller pickguard as well. I've been eyeing the '62 reissue with the small black guard for some time. I am partial to the Cherry color too, since it's traditional, but this one is expanding my horizons.
Chistopher, you're more than welcome to comment. I'm simply attempting to keep the vitriolic discourse at bay.
